I think it's more for sound insulation than any kind of engine protection from water unless you are wading through deep water and have a bow wave washing over the bonnet. Mine are perished and falling apart. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

A quick search online of CJE00052 suggested it's a 30cm length. CJE00053 states 100cm, however the parts catalogue shows the part you have is defined by chassis number:

The nearside rubber seal was split on my 2011 L322, I ordered the seal below from AliExpress (search Rubber Door Seal and I opted for D-11 type) for £10 shipped. Pleased with the fit.

Well... the part number that I ordered is apparently for 2010-2012 models. It looks like earlier models had a similar seal but with a different part number. <shrug>
