Why only 8L of engine oil.

When I suck the oil out of my engine I typically only get about 8L so I put about 8L back in and the on screen indicator reads fullish.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm not over worried as it is only an interim change to combat dilution. I also need to reset the annoying service indicator thing but I can probably do that with my IDTool although it seems quicker and easier to do it by opening and shutting doors and pressing pedals and turning the ignition on and off - I've seen it somewhere on here.. Geoff

Not getting all the old oil out is the only explanation

Are you getting the engine warmed up sufficient before starting sucking , much easier than trying to with cold engine.

I am doing all the right things apart from changing the filter last as I got round to thinking that it might hold a litre or so. I’m not particularly worried as even 8L of fresh oil should at least in part help with the dilution situation. Geoff

I've sucked it out several times and I only get 8 ltrs as well, that's with unscrewing the oil filter first and the level showing nearly full...

I once removed the sump plug and about 1/8 ltr came out....

I refill it with 8 ltrs and the gauge is then on full or one segment below....

IMHO that is fine, it is much better to have slightly less than full, rather than over full...

Remember JLR design it to traverse steep slopes, including side slopes and still feed oil to the essential areas, hence if the level is between "full" and above "add oil" then I recon that's good enough and nothing to worry about...

Just my 2p... Thumbs Up Pete

Makes you wonder how accurate the oil level sender is on these engines.
I always get 9.5 litres out [oil dilution] and about 9.25 litres in.
So are yours underfilled or mine overfilled?
Begs the question again, why not have a dipstick.

I assume you are talking about the 4.4 engine? I have just replaced my oil and got exactly 9.25 litres out and refilled it with the same. Shows as 2 down from the top of the level so not in the red. _______________________________________________
