3.0 sc petrol?

I never realised this was actually a thing, I thought that the car that I was considering was a diesel but turns out its a petrol.

does anyone know what these engines are like in a FFRR? im assuming quite quiet vs a diesel? I dont drive particularly quickly so not to fussed about acceleration and I dont tow anything so no low down grunt needed.....

are they reliable engines or have they got some issues use the diesel version?

any knowledge appreciated

cheers

I think they are pretty rare Andyleeds,

I have only ever had the 5.0 supercharged and now the 4.4 Turbocharged petrol engines, but the 3.0 supercharged was only installed on the Vogue SE, fairly limited numbers, and from what i understand the same engine as in the Jaggggggg.

From memory I think it suffers with the same issues as 5.0 which is timing chains, but happy to be wrong, as with the 5.0 i suspect maintenance is your key, and don't be fobbed off by dealers telling you the engine should sound rattly, if it does then time for new chains and guides, and just check the service history, prevention is better than replacement and a whole lot cheaper..

I have heard that it's a bit revier than the 5.0, probably as it needs to for the weight vs power etc, I would suggest definitely quieter than the diesel and a lot less smelly. In the Jagggg its very smooth so if your not a "drive it like you stole it kind of guy" then I would say should be right up your street.

Only thing to remember is it only comes in the Vogue SE spec so unlike the 5.0 which is Autobiography & SV spec.

Drive it and let me know your thoughts.

Good luck in your search.

cheers Dr F, that all makes sense to me its got a full main dealer history at the correct times etc and is just shy of 50k miles, im assuming that the timing chain should be fine at that sort of mileage?

Afternoon Andyleeds,

I would have said so, but difficult to tell, best is listen to the engine if it sounds wrong (like a bag of nails) then it normal is wrong. They do rattle a smidge on start up for a few secs (no longer) as does everything until the oil starts to circulate. Should be a nice purring with a slight ticking noise and a low grumble from the exhaust.

I am so paranoid, I listen all the time, and any change in engine note, don't hesitate get it checked out. I think you will be very happy with it. I look forward to hearing about your adventures, and the obligatory photos if you do pull the trigger.

Bear in mind I drive like Miss Daisy,

I have just popped out and checked, as I genuinely couldn't tell you, now on this lovely rainy June day, the computer says;

L405 SV 565 - 21mpg
L460 SV LWB P615 - 19.5mpg

Well, that's what the computer says anyway....

Never actually checked if that is accurate, and I don't really care if I am honest, I fill them up when they need it with super unleaded and away I go until the next time they need filling up again.
