MOT failure

Preview
I’d like the collective hives view on this if you all please, our RR vogue 2007 went for its mot and has failed, were now left in a quandary.

It failed on drivers side rear jacking point/sill.
Front brake pipes corroded needing replacement.

Minor defects

Front drivers side CV boot. (I can do this on the drive)
Rear drivers side CV boot ( according to the garage just needs a large jubilee clip putting on so again I can do that)

The car is surplus to requirements now, (my responsible adult has purchased a RRS).
So I’m left wondering if it’s worth getting the work done or scraping it, don’t get me wrong it’s been a great car engine is strong ect car has done 174k it’s in average condition with all the usual scars marks, rusty areas. Same with the interior. Looking online I can’t really get a realistic value as the prices vary wildly!!

I don’t know weather to repair it, and try selling it with a 12 month ticket, scrap it, or try getting rid of it as spares and repairs (not sure there’s much of a market for the later).

We’ve had lots of help and advice off here so thought I’d ask and see the responses, feel free to reply or PM me.

Corrosion on the visible bit of the front brake pipe is the tip of the iceberg. They will also be rotten behind the near side sill, the front to back run. Replaced all of mine on the drive fairly easily using cupronickel.
If it’s just the jacking point that’s also quite easy if you can weld. Again did mine on the drive. It’s what you find when you start removing the sill covers and wheel arch liners that will dictate how big a job it is.
If I had space and time, I would seriously consider parting it out. 2007 3.6 TDV8

Well it looks like this is going to be sold to the breakers yard, none of the local welders really want to repair it. So it’s pointless me doing the front brake pipes or the driveshaft boot.
If anyone has any interest in it please feel free to pm me. It’s located in worsley jc 13 M60.

That's a shame!

I'm sort of in a similar position with my 2007 tdv8 but its not failed the test yet! I'm a decent welder so I expect I'll be repairing mine myself.

I'd be interested in knowing what ££ you get for it. I expect it must be considerably more than scrap by weight. Specialist breakers sell the engine for circa £3500, then there's the trans etc which fetch decent money. I've had body panels from a place in Wolverhampton that break them. Advertises on ebay. Can't recall the name though.

I've also had great success listing cars as spares or repairs on ebay. Indeed, timing for me is not good right now or I'd be interested in taking it on. Sucker for punishment!!

Best of luck and please do provide the details!

Chris

Whilst I may agree with you both, it's my responsible adults motor, and after 6yrs of ownership and a few hours of tinkering with loads of reading this very forum for the answers (on her behalf) she has decided that she wanted .... Range Rover Sport L320. So as I'm sure most of you will understand, once they make there mind up they go out and buy what they want, leaving others to sort it....hence where I'm at now. So unfortunately it's surplus to requirements as I has the sister brand, an X351. So it will have to go in afraid.
