front cv boots split

Have got both outer boots split. Is it a pig of a job to fit new ones?

If you have access to a press, no. Mine was split. The shaft and hub are interference fit and are tight as £$%^. I have read on the forum, preople braking pullers Etc. I took mine to local specialist. He did the job but on doinso, broke their approved JLR tools. I hope this helps.

It depends...
I've just done one of mine, in fact ended up doing the whole CV joint as I'd left the boot too long.

This was essential:

remember to buy some M14 nuts to fix it to the wheel studs.

This was useful as my splitter was far too small/weak for the job:

Also need a heavy duty tool like this to crimp the retaining clip on. Needs to be good and tight as the boot isn't overly pliable and it gets pulled around when steering. If it leaks or comes off the cv joint grease escapes and before long you're starting again. Notoriously difficult to make seal, but that might be from not using the right tool?

I've just completed the job. I used aTITAN TTB653SDS 5.9KG ELECTRIC SDS PLUS CHISEL / DRILL. It was only £60 and they popped straight out using this. I also removed the front ball joints using it. It's great for anything where you need a percussion action.

I also used this for the CV boots from eBay at £12.00 It tightens with a spanner so you can really clamp on the clips. Just remember not to over pack the boots with too much grease!

Off topic, but how do you keep your car so clean? All my hubs and arms have surface corrosion on them

I’ve only just finished replacing pretty well everything that you can see. I did also primer and top coat all of the new parts and then waxed them. Hopefully it will still look like that in a few years time. Razz 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC
