Towing capacities on the SVR vs standard

Hey fellas,

So was looking at the towing limits for my 2017 5.0 SVR and its listed as having a max tow of 3.1 tonnes. Why?

What is it about the SVR that reduces the tow?
The engine is way more than powerful enough, so it isnt that, which means it must be a restriction due to either wheels, transmission or drivetrain, but what exactly?

Im curious to know as there isnt a very definitive answer.

cheers fellas

It could also be something to do with mounting points as the exhaust is different. I'm just speculating though.....

Agree its odd and have no idea why. I did notice before I bought it, but I don't usually tow near the limit so not a prob for me. I do tow up to maybe 2.8 tons and its fine - but you need to get the nose weight right. Had an Alpine tractor on a big car trailer today (just over 2.5 all in). Was all good - unlike last Thursday when I delivered the thing the other way and didn't get enough nose weight. Terrible shunting! Mike - MPx

Could it be the alloys ? If they are a lighter weight or something special which have a lower load rating than the standard? V8 or else ...

Are you referring to an SVR Sport? Or a FFRR SVAutobiography?

its the FFRR SVR.

I just find it odd thats all. I towed a Ifor Tri-axle the other day and it pulls it with complete ease.

The SVR is a version of the Sport. The FF version is the SVAD (SVAutobiography Dynamic)

I agree tho, it tows brilliantly and it seems very odd to have a reduced towing capacity as its obviously a supremely capable car with the necessay power, traction and braking. Might be to do with the forces being put through the towbar and the chassis fixings but hard to see why they'd be different on an SVAD - but more likely a weight thing on the shocks/springs/airbags as the suspension is set up differently?? Mike - MPx
