4.4 SDV8 - should i be scared

Reading through the splendid 4.4 failure strip downs has me scared witless now.

Mines just ticked over 100,000, doesnt work hard, has it oil changed every 5K, and is frankly better looked after than the wife.

So my question is how many of you are running higher mileage 4.4 engines with no dramas.

Come on cheer me up by letting me know how many of you have not had any issues.

Cheers. All things transport - big or small, UK or planetwide.

I’m on my 3rd V8 Diesel - everyone faultless so far - the only issue I’ve had is an EGT sensor and a 3 month wait for an new sensor - but to be fair they are not made by LR and I was told it was a faulty batch which caused the issue - and the vehicle was still fully drivable. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

I’m on about 102k with oil changes at less than about 2k a year.

No issues, though I think my next one might be petrol due to low miles….

Id agree with you - im only doing only 4k a year so my next one will hopefully be petrol.

Though the official permission slip from the fun polizei may take a while.

I envy you all, my V8 (MY18) failed at 25000 miles. Full service history, oil change every 6 months.

I think it's the luck of the draw with LR. Fortunately all under LR warranty and because they couldn't supply a new 4.4, JLR took the car at market value. ------------------------------------------

Engines do fail and it happens with every make - just look at what’s happening with Ford Rangers and also Toyotas - it’s an all make issue and it’s not helped by emission treatments or owners that skip servicing and then clock the cars which are on PCP to avoid additional mileage charges. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
