Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) Error on dash - Yet it works | |
Good morning,
I hope someone can help before I go and get ripped off. My drivers side rear EPB motor went bad so I replaced it. It was a 10 minute job however the re-calibration or actually getting it to show no errors on the dash doesn't seem to want to be as quick if at all.
The EPB works (although I am too scared to use it as it clamped on and I ended up scoring badly my brake disc moving forwards nd back) it goes up and down as it should however, I have the orange warning on the dash. No matter what I do to try and erase it, it wont go. I plug a reader into it and it shows no errors, so wondering if the error is embedded somewhere (I'm not a mechanic).
The car had its MOT & Service yesterday. They report as I had told them the error is there yet the EPB works so it passed on that basis. However I need to get the code removed. IS it a simple battery, unplug, leave for half an hour, and it will reset, or is there a process I need to follow to remove the error code? I have been on YouTube for months trying every process suggested, and this has returned me no reward. If the motor and everything work to enable the handbrake to engage and disengage, why do I still have errors? Could it be connected to something else that is not working?
A few months back, when I got out of the car (engine running and lowered) I got back in and my partner said the seat moved and was a crunching sound. The cigarette lighter socket in the front did work but no longer works. Cruise control does not work (I assume this is to do with the braking error)
Could it be a fuse if so where would this be?
Can I disconnect the battery (assume this is in the boot)
From the MOT, I had a couple of advisories
Nearside front brake pad wear sensor rubbing on the driveshaft
Nearside front ABS sensor rubbing on driveshaft
Could these be the reasons (not sure if this will affect the handbrake, which is on the rear).
Any help or suggestions? Like I say, the EPB works, just the error code needs removing.
