I am quite a confused and indecisive person but would like some final advice on this please to hopefully try and help.

I have this old 06 l322 td6 and it will cost roughly £1500 plus to get through the next mot (due now). Both back arches and jack points (have photos and are a mess). Both back lights, both back tyres and no doubt a few other things the tester will find.

I was talking with a friend last night and asked say with a budget of around £2000 all in to get it road worthy and be able to use it again. Or look for another for the same as what would cost to put this one right.
His answer was probably to stick to this as you are simply buying someone else's problems.

Or sell as is and stick to a car.

What would most of you do in this situation, honestly. This is also, due to health there are things now i don't think I could do being a heavy 4x4 whereas on a smaller car shouldn't (not saying it won't) be as bad to work in if need be.

So as I say, what would most of you honestly do in this situation.

If it were me, looks like a nice spec car and all original. What's not to like...

You know the car and its good and bad bits, I would get fixed and keep on trucking. Better the devil you know, and as your friend says, nothing to say you buy another one and it has even bigger troubles.

Now in reality it probably doesn't make financial sense, but its a Range Rover. Not sure any car is actually a sound financial decision in reality. So if you invest in it, then keep it and carry on enjoying it. then to me there is your answer.

If you are going to flog on in 6 months then maybe a different decision

Thanks for reply and yes you are probably right. I have got myself in a bit of a mess car wise again, 4 of them including this and they all need work, got them advertised though.
I ideally just want one to be able to use and enjoy while I can.
I just wonder what my dad would say if he was still hear, I am sure i would get a well deserved lecture.

You need to ask yourself why you are buying the cars - is it to get a bargain, is it because you love them, is it because you enjoy working on them etc etc.

Once you've established that, then you can make progress.

Personally, I would look for a Rangey that has had the arches properly sorted. That would typically point to someone who has looked after the car and would indicate other areas of potential concern would also have been looked at.

While some regard the 322 as "peak Range Rover" (eg Harry's Garage, J Clarkson) my two were the most troublesome RRs I have owned, and corrosion is a real problem, especially in Scotland. Once a certain stage is reached it can be a case of "there's aye something" which can be demoralising and a constant drain on funds.

The hindquarters are structural and so need a good quality repair. It may well be the case that once it is opened up things are even worse than they look at present. You need tyres and rear lights too, and your garage has advised the car is past economic repair. So unless you have a particular sentimental attachment to that car and no problem in paying whatever it costs the wisest course seems to sell it for whatever you can get.

If you are getting to the stage where your enthusiasm for projects is declining maybe best to rationalise down to one dependable car and keep that in good order. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I know i phoned a place earlier and as soon as I said L322 he said "I will stop you there" and that was that.
He explained as did the local garage yesterday that it really isn't worth it unless there was sentimental reasons (there isn't) and even then I guess your have to be realistic etc.

Yes it have thought about it and it goes at the end of the week. I will need to get rid of the junk and as you say just have one decent thing. Joking aside, I think i must be an illness of some kind thinking I can probably do things when I can't. And it is only to when I get them and see them for what it is then I sat oh my god what have I did.

I'd stick. Seems like a reasonable number to get through MOT and then maybe have a couple of years before the next bill. Or perhaps longer. And meanwhile enjoy the best RR of our time, cos we're all jealous of the imperiousnes of the era, and you're cultivating a classic.
