Taking the ‘Big Fella’ to France

Well, my first proper holiday in 5 years, I’ve booked a nice hotel on the coast of Picardy in the north of France . . . and I’m driving there (much to the amusement/amazement of my work colleagues who rip the you-know-what out of me on a daily basis for having a Range Rover).
Ferry return trip is booked, checked my insurance for European cover, got the Euro extension for my AA breakdown cover, got the kit I need in the car to drive in France, think I’ve ticked all the boxes. Two questions though, never having to driven it abroad before - will my standard 11 plate factory-fitted navigation system work over there? And other than having a bulb kit and giving the motor a good once-over before I set off, are there any hints/tips from those of you who have driven in France before?
Merci d’avance! 😉 L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Navigation should be fine if your maps are up to date, get an emovis, blip & Go or similar toll tag for the toll roads, some have been changed to barrier free, the tag makes everything simpler and much quicker.
Otherwise relax and enjoy.

Driving in France is much nicer than in the UK as long as you avoid peak holiday traffic dates, look at the calendar on the Bison Futte web site for dates to avoid also, plenty of driving tips and routes on "about-france.com

Change headlamps..My D4 had a lever under bonnet to do this. Not sure what the RR's have.
Edit:
Apparently through touchdcreen,if fitted, or underbonnet. L405 2014 FFRR Autobiography

maybe look into getting some Eurolites for the front headlights, easy enough to fit, and the Gendarmes are pretty hot on this, so best to stick them on just before you go Smile

You shouldn't need headlight stickers with a FFRR.
L405 it's a dash menu, L322 is a switch behind the headlight units.

A Crit Aire sticker is worth getting, it's only a few euros & you might need one if you end up going through Rouen.

I thought those stickers were only for halogen lights.

On the FFRR and most vehicles with xenon projectors, the stickers aren't needed.

See the below topics for making the required adjustments to the lights.

Get travel insurance for health cover. If you have time get GHIC card from Govt website (get one anyway for next trip Very Happy ) . It gives basic cover but doesn’t include repatriation.

Enjoy your trip and report back.👍 John

Google Priority a Droite
It's a French highway rule that is a bit mad but well worth knowing about look out for a black cross in a white triangle with a red out line. it means you have to give way to traffic on the right even if you are on a main road and they are not - sometimes in rural towns they have it as well. You just need to be aware of it thats all Enjoy the trip
