L322 5.0 supercharged anyone had one?

So the wife wants range rover for the family car.

Lci L405 was the original choice but seems to be ridiculous to insure still quoted circa 4k for both of us. I refuse considering our outgoing 4.6is x5 costs 500.

So i have managed to get her to agree to a l322 in the interim, till the newer ones becomes reasonable

I can get insured on a l322 5.0 for around 1k

Anyone ever had one? Can you share your ownership experience and any woes.

Apparently its a rust prone car...and the 5.0 can suffer timing guides failing but quite rare

The 6hp transmission puts me off especially as the tdv8 of the same time has a 8hp but little can be done about that.

I know the tdv8 is the one to have but ulez is a must.

Had a 2012 5.0 SC. Awesome car. I did circa 50k miles in it over more than 4 years and generally reliable. Gave me some jip with the aircon not working - most of the components replaced in the end - high cost. But in the end (at about 108k miles) the chains went at an awkward time for me so instead of repair I replaced it. The repair route is eye watering expensive for the chains and will have the car off the road for quite a while even assuming you can find someone to do it. So either make sure its been done or reserve a few thou for when it happens to you. (From 2013 on there was a modification so those engines dont suffer the same ... and the replacement guides are the later ones). GLWTS Mike - MPx

Thank you mpx

Ive seen some at 180k with no chain woes or ever replaced, comming from a m62 ill all to familiar with it.

I think its very much linked to cold oil abuse and infrequent oil changes

Car im looking at is 78k with full history and most changes at around 5 to 7k miles.

If the chains did go id suck up the 20 hour job diy

Only thing that puts me of is the 6hp transmission because lci 2 diesels got the 8hp

Hopefully i view it tomorrow

Thanks

Went to see one today 10 plate with 79k miles 5.0 autobiography up for 15k

Cold start rounds rough for like 20 seconds then settles no metalic noises

Under the car is a sea of surface rust no leaks obvious or in the parking spot

No deployable side steps

No soft close doors (edit not an option on l322 wtf)

No auto tailgate(edit not an option on l322 wtf) and rear screen side rubbers falling off

Some rust on on body like the hinge area for bottom tailgate under the cover how does that even happen its inside the car

Rear inner forward arches a little flaky

Air con does not work after being regassed 2 days ago....

Couldnt drive it because a middle age well off man in Kingston has 3rd party cover wtf because his wife said its cheaper

Mix match tyres and wheels scuffed to oblivion

who never knew what the kickdown button was on the pedal

Pulls smoothly but underwhelming maybe because im use to m3s but even my 4.6is felt more torquey

Some body scuffs and rear bumper not fitted properly sticking out on bumper to quarter panel line.

Full history most oil changes 7 to 9k most jlr some specialists but nothing really beyond basic services

Everything else works

He wants 15k i never made an offer but imo worth 11 or 12

Help

“ Cold start sounds rough for like 20 seconds then settles no metalic noises”

They all do that sir….
Supercharger coupler will also cause a noise if hasn’t been replaced. It’s a buyers market for 5.0s, unless it’s clear glass and Queens Green 😂.
Tyres like that are always a red flag for me.
If not keeping it for a long time, you’ll probably have issues selling if chains not done etc etc as most people in the know will want proof of it having been done or priced to sell so they can factor having it done. 2010 Supercharged
