Unauthorised car entry?

Got in this morning and noticed a few random items missing from the car. My rear dashcam shows me double locking it the last time I used it. I can only assume somone nearby was using a scanner to intercept the keyfob signal and then used it to open the car? Very worrying....... Evil or Very Mad 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Last year about this time our clise of some 15 houses, alot of the cars (including mine) were targeted, all 4 of my doors were left half an inch open, as were the other 2 cars on my drive, only took......a can of Coke Zero from the fridge in the car, found the empty can on the grass!
Had a lengthy chat with 3 of my neighbours, who all have cars locked with transponders. Agreed that not all of us would have left our cars accidentally unlocked, I have a Faraday box for my keys, so somehow they've managed to unlock 4 different model cars, we had them on CCTV from a ring doorbell, police weren't interested as nothing significantly was stolen, and they were not identifiable as they were wearing hoodies!
Reckon they were trialling a piece of theives kit for use somewhere else!

It’s been a ‘wakeup call’ in terms of how I viewed security as I was under the illusion someone would need to physically break in on these earlier non keyless entry systems. Leaving anything of even minor value inside is now a risk I will have to factor in which is both worrying and massively inconvenient. I’m assuming the key signal was intercepted at the time of locking but could the entry code be broken via a brute force type attack? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I live in a quiet close, a car with a couple of dodgy looking eastern Europeans in it would get spotted, besides the vehicles were VE, Mercedes Vauxhall my car and a Transit, they obviously had some device that could open up different manufacturers.
They didn't take from my car:
CD's, Headphones, anything from the boot, any of the contents of the live box (mainly make up, not mine I'll add), sunglasses, memory sticks etc.......just one can of Coke!
Was a strange night, my neighbours reported that they'd had their prescription sunglasses stolen from inside their car.......suspect they'd midslaid them.

Anyway, in the old days they'd have done untold damage to the car.
Got away lightly!

They took sunglasses, a small torch, wet wipes and some cash ( <£20) i.e stuff they can use rather than theft for selling on. Maybe going through a carpark or street taking stuff like this is a form of 'shopping' esp if people don't notice. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

They left the contents of the glovebox and door cards on the seats, think they may have been looking for cash, don't keep any on me anyway let alone in the car!

Do you have the little amber light in your passenger door mirror Jay ?

If so, latest range of thefts on 2010 and newer L322's is due to the stupidity of JLR putting a pair of data wires into the blind spot module behind the rear wheel arch liner. This means a thief will simply pull the wheel arch lining away and gain access to these two data cables ( known as Can-Bus ) and connect an OBD key learning device - about £200 on the black market Sad

Once connected the thief will put a new key up to the lower edge of the drivers door glass and within 15 seconds a new key can be programmed, they can then open the car and take what they want, happening in car parks all over the UK, they can also drive your car away and sell for parts, or export to some random country that does not give a hoot about VIN numbers and stolen cars.

All the vehicles below have the can bus wiring in the passenger rear wheel arch ( for RHD cars )

I don't have blind spot monitors.
Just fitted a Stoplock pro elite (more wishful thinking than real protection), ordered wires and switches to make a kill switch (should have done this years ago), hidden an apple airtag ( minus speaker) and emptied the car of everything. Can't do more than that. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

If they are going to the trouble of getting past a steering lock and hidden kill switch to take a 12 yr old car worth <£5k they are welcome to it Rolling with laughter 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I'm more curious how they did it ( as you do not have "Blind Spot" mirror option ) ??

Could be that they watched you open the car and scanned, but unlikely I would have thought

I’m assuming it was a signal intercept but the security tech is now old so it may have been something like a brute force attack. Either way I’m no longer as confident as I was about these cars security. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
