3.6 tdv8 right hand side inlet manifold - how difficult?

Hey!
As may have had, I have a cracked inlet manifold on the drivers (right) side. Lots of visible smoke when plumbed into the smoke machine, and lovely black smoke out of the exahust on high boost.

I've been quoted £1600 from one LR indie, but haven't called around yet.

I'm fairly handy with a spanner, and got quite a few tools etc (and never shy away from buying new tools!) but from what I've seen access is an absolute nightmare and removing injector number 4 is difficult and need to tilt the engine forward which requires access to the engine mount.

How bad is the job? Is it doeable on the drive or is this a job for a garage who's done it before...?

Thanks!
Tim

I’ve done both sides at home on the driveway and the key to the drivers side is tilting the engine over towards the passenger side. Multiple extension bars and swivel joints etc to reach down to the engine mount.

The ABS module is a pain to remove and you’ll have to remove the brake lines.

Pulling injectors out is pretty straight forward - when you do it’s a good idea to put a long screwdriver in with grease on the end to clean the seats up before they go back in. Make sure you number the injectors up.

If you get stuck at any point feel free to drop me a message! I took loads of pics along the arduous journey…..! 2007 Range Rover Vogue 3.6 TDV8

Thanks for the quick response!

I've called another independent and have been quoted £600 including cheap aftermarket parts.

- £1600 includes Allmakes inlet manifold
- £600 for cheap aftermarket parts

Having a quick look, Allmakes is around £450 plus injector o-rings etc.

Does anyone have any experience with the inlet manifold manufacturers? Doing it myself for £450 with quality parts seems a good option...

Looks like I need to also change out the o-ring on the EGR outlet valve from the plenum as that is leaking. Feels like someone has been here before and then promptly sold the car...

Good point ref the injector copper washers! I got them from Duckworths.

As to inlet manifold I used Britpart and they seem to be the best and good value. Think I used Island 4x4 for that… 2007 Range Rover Vogue 3.6 TDV8

Parts ordered. Wish me luck!

Is there any particular tools that would be recommended here? I've got most sized spanners, socket sets etc. Reading other posts, long extensions will be required, and some crows feet?

Ha ha, did one yesterday! Whats the chances... Haven't even seen a 3.6 in yonks! Easy enough job, just be methodical label everything your unsure about and remember to do the bloody fuel lines up properly Embarassed or it won't start and will pi$$ fuel everywhere over the floor Censored
Injector number 4 I find easiest to dismantle & its then smaller to remove...
Remember injector seals when ordering parts.
And don't forget to charge the battery well as she may take some cranking to start Thumbs Up

Thanks for all the tips!

Reading the LR manual, it suggests supporting the engine from above, and removing the two bolts to the RH engine mount. Does that provide slightly better access to the engine mount?

This is my only worry as I hear the engine mount is a pain..!
