ignition key not turning 2008 l322 vogue | |
ok so i read the forums ..removed fuse 18 listened for click it clicked ..no turn....removed lower steering wheel shroud and disconnected steering lock plug in connector waited a bit plugged back in key turned ignition lights on but no start..did it few times and at death ended up with key not turning ..ran wire from battery to steering lock plug blue wire ..all works as should accept of course steering lock not doing anything...so i can use the car...stripped out top steering coloumn drilled out roll pins cleaned all the innards put back together still no key turn ..any body know from here what to do apart from buying new upper column how can i test the magnetic sensor any help appreciated ..this my older l322 3.6 v8 diesel ..thanks guys mike thetrike
Update ran the blue wire fix to footwell lights ...and ignition key turns car starts no probs However the other day car started and as drove away steering lock came on ....engine running, I thought engine not supposed to run when steering lock on..ie put in key steering lock comes off small pin engages to tell ecu steering lock is off and engine can be started ...am i missing something here....just for the initiated the 18 fuse trick never solved our no turn ignition key ..only powering up the blue wire got us moving .... today everything worked as normal for a few times starting car with blue wire not bypassed and then it reverted to no key turn in ignition ..just cant understand what needs fixing as it all works one minute then not the next ..looks like snipping wires to steering lock motor so i feel safe driving but id rather fix the problem if anyone as any more ideas ..the hall sensor pin works good ....ive read about broken magnets the one inside my steering coloumn locking motor looks fine any body know of difinitive test or am i looking at wrong magnets ..oh the joys of motoring i have now disconnected the two connection blocks in steering column lock motor box hoping this is stopping any reoccurence of steering lock activation..these hopefully are the power wires to steering lock motor ...after all this , no alarms have sounded, and no lights on dash ..blue wire bypass reinstalled and cars usable
