United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Santorini Black
L319 To L322

Hi All.

I've recently bought myself an early 2012 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE to replace my Discovery 3. It's quite a beast and I'm already loving it.

We ended up picking it up on the way back north after a three week trip into the Pyrenees.

The plan is to eventually end up with the tent on top every now and then and get it a bit dirty, but probably not to the same level as the Disco! It's far to shiny at the minute so I'd rather not drag it through spiky bushes just yet!

It's not without it's issues and will soon be going into Henshall Engineering to have a good going over. The Aircon isn't airconning and the previous owners mechanic fitted a resistor in place of the EGT sensor as he didn't want to damage the manifold removing it (all known about at time of purchase and offered a decent reduction in purchase price).

I've also since had the alarm sounding when left in the sun which I've linked to the bonnet alarm sensor and noticed an occasional delay / click on starting which I believe could be the start of a dying starter motor. Excellent.

Once I get the Disco out of the way I can concentrate on giving the VSE some love and attention. Thankfully the previous owner has repaired the wheel arches and replaced a large number of suspension components so work on my behalf will be mostly preventative for a bit hopefully!

I'm not a massive fan of chrome so the design pack wasn't my first choice (plus the reduction in clearance) however the rest of the car was too good to pass up on. I figured at some point I could always swap it over if it got in the way. It is growing on me however and I do like the look of the rear end now!

Hoping it doesn't bankrupt me, but looking forward to feeding off the collective knowledge of the hive mind if it tries!

Cheers,

Matt.

Two weeks in and I'm still loving it.

Had it in with James at Henshall Engineering for him to cast his expert eyes over it and also fix a few issues.

After a couple of days ownership I noticed the starter motor was just clicking a few times so after a conversation with the dealer I purchased it from he agreed to pay for a new starter.

Other jobs Henshalls completed included -
New condenser to cure the Air con
Replace the EGT sensor as it had been bypassed with a resistor!
Gearbox Flush
New coolant tank as the old one had become discoloured
Two new bonnet struts after the bonnet fell on his head!

Once back home it was put straight to work –

I’ve since sold the Disco 3 which went to a chap in Dorset. He must have been keen as he drove all the way to Lancashire to collect it!

I now have chance to start playing about and getting to know the L322. First big job was cleaning up the rear subframe, treating the rust and then coating the whole underside in Lanoguard / moto grease. It did seem to have some sort of coating on already, but it just flaked away leaving surface rust so I thought it best to improve the protection. The rest of the car is in good order, just the expected surface rust of a JLR product! I'll be smelling quite a lot like a cooked sheep until all the overspray burns off the exhaust!

I’ve also ordered a new black upper and lower grill, there’s just too much chrome for my liking currently I’m not keen the full black dealer look so I’ll be keeping the chrome fog surrounds and side grills. Matt.

It was, the oil cooler has already been replaced, but the tank remained cloudy. Matt.
