It’s the same with any highish-end car with a lot of features/tech.
I’m collecting a 2011 Autobiography today, having decided to return to the fold after my 2005 Lexus RX300 finally became economically non-viable to keep on the road.
For comparison, an air suspension strut for the RX is about £800 for an aftermarket part (£1100 for genuine Lexus), plus a few hundred for fitting. And that’s if you’re lucky and the height sensor doesn’t break (a £500 part). Wheel bearings are £1300 a corner, and only that cheap if you don’t need a new speed sensor. As with the L322, I discovered the sills rot due to mud behind the plastic covers when the jack went straight through the jacking point - another £1200 fix.
So yes, I’m expecting things to break; it’s an ageing L322. But I’m actually expecting my repair costs to decrease.
Even if it costs £1-2k PA in maintenance, it won’t be any worse than the RX has been in the past few years (and the RX will need about £3-4k to keep it roadworthy this year). And I’ll have a nice L322 rather than a manky RX!
