Hi all, I was wondering why JLR are still advertising on the telly when they haven't got anything to sell? It does not compute in my mind and I'd have thought a total waste of money, for a company which is up the creak without a paddle.

In fact I'd go as far as to say it's doing more damage than good...

JLR have not ceased trading and people will still be placing orders even if they have to wait longer for delivery. Also the advertising will have been paid for upfront and is non refundable. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Dealers have stock globally, so unless your after something specific, new cars are available.

I'm still seeing deals from Marshals on moving existing stock.

How long stock will last I'm not sure but typically 3 to 6 months factory capacity are built up to cover new model changeovers so I doubt they're going to run out of cars any time soon.

The problem appears to be ordering new, and it's mainly the orders to suppliers feeding the factories, not the actual factory assemby being the problem from what I'm hearing.

From what I gathered they do have stock, but they are unable to assign it to dealers.. Also as almost everything is made to order, now a days, isn't the acres of cars sitting around already spoken for? Even if they can't allocate them due to digital difficulties.

Presumably this will be connected to the Cyber Hack(?).

My local JLR in Dundee had to turn away everyone that arrived to collect their new registration vehicle in September because they had no way of transferring ownership. JLR had been told by DVLA that it would be possible to submit the necessary transfers manually, but when the day came they reversed that decision having realised the paperwork would be too much of a headache! The dealership had to tell everyone to go home

I suspect that their inventory systems - like everything else - were affected and could not reflect the accurate status.

Well I can report that of last Monday, it would appear to be back to normal, and you can now get spares.. It is rumoured that the entire IT system is totally new, after it was found that the old system was beyond saving..

Out of interest; I was looking at trading up my 2009 L322 (2010 model) for a 4.4 L405.
A few months back, during the summer, there were loads available upto £30k or so..
Looking on Autotrader at the weekend, there were hardly any for sale?!
I did read that this was due to the IT troubles and that there is a shortage of cars to buy and that older models are being bought and have increased in value?
Any truth in this?

I'm not sure if it's a quirk or a trend, but on L322s look like sensible mileage late models, 2010 / 2012s are actually increasing in price whilst 405s are still depreciating.

It might be worth holding onto yours to see how prices develop.
