TDV8 4.4 started with a tapping noise!

Hi All,
returning from a shopping trip on Saturday up the A1 and all was well but as I turned into the driveway I heard some strange noises. There was a metallic grating sound for a second or so and a tapping sound which continued. I parked up and turned off the engine. Started it back up and the tapping continued and a squeaky grinding noise again only for a second. As I opened the bonnet, the grinding noise had stopped but the ticking continued. this gets louder as the engine revs increase.
The noise seems to be coming from the front top passenger side of the engine. While stood scratching my head wondering what was up now there was a couple of small squeaks rather like a bit of morse code and the tapping noise stopped. I turned the engine off and restarted it. No noise! as I revved the engine gently the tapping came back. No grinding or squeaking though.
Any suggestions of what this could be would be appreciated.

Could be a collapsed bearing somewhere along the serpentine belt?

Sounds to me like the auxiliary'serpentine' belt tensioner failing - the housing cracks and the belt starts to run off the edge of the pulley. Common issue on this engine, usually around the mileage you have.

Not mega urgent, but you need to get it looked at reasonably soon, they can fail completely, and then the belt can break a few bits as it tries to leave the engine bay.
