I generally change my oil around April and Oct each year regardless. The 20l bulk oils from Smith and Allan or Millers etc + an oil filter comes in at less than £50 / oil change, and took less than half an hour last time I did it. It's just so much easier with the suction pipe setup. I really wish all cars had that. V8 or else ...

I think I’m going to order in bulk next time, saves in the long run really

What’s difference in dropping oil by plug than suction? Surely by plug it gets more out ?

Snap! I do exactly the same, with the same S&A oil. This means every 2.5-3K miles, but mostly short journeys. I also have an oil sample analysis done each time, which is another £39, but gives much peace of mind, compared to the wing-and-prayer method. Dilution is never more than 1%. V6 Vogue - “Less is More” - less to go wrong!

I went for a bulk order recently, at £2.50 litre I couldn't say no, just used the first 9.4l today. Very Happy

I've got an L494 & the L405 and do lots of miles, local main dealer sold it to me as they now use a dispensing system from a large tank on the roof of the premises which is filled by a tanker. They couldn't get it up to the roof and the techs were too lazy to use it from the drums, so it was a bit of a win.

That's me sorted for a few years at least! L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Minimal difference. I think someone once compared the difference by sucking out the oil, then undoing the sump plug to see what came out.. I think the difference was a fraction of a cup iirc. i.e 50-100ml ... really cant remember other than it wasn't that much compared to the total capacity. V8 or else ...

Along with many others I took the drain plug out of my 4.4 after sucking the oil out. There was only a dribble so have never checked since.
Not every car is as accommodating, I’ve seen 2+litres drop out of a BMW doing the same check.

I changed my oil and filter on Friday using the suction method, took all of half an hour.

I did what Christian from LRTime does and checked the filter for any metal debris, fortunately there were absolutely none at all Thumbs Up

For reference I used S&A 5w/30. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

ACEA C5

STJLR 51.5122 has been superseded by STJLR 03.5006

I have not found a better oil that meets that spec than Ravenol ECS SAE 0W-20
