Range rover L322 3.6TDV8

Hi all.

Im rebuilding my range rover engine after taking bad advice which led to it loosing oil pressure (thats a story for another day)!
I am at the stage of putting the cams and chains in with the special tools..
theres a notch on the crankshaft for a pin to rest against but what one would assume is cylinder 1&2 is at the bottom of its stroke but 7&8 seem to be at TDC. there is number 1 and number 2 on the left and right bank heads that i'm assuming is cylinder 1&2
can anyone shed any light
