I have noticed an issue with my L405. The headlight aim is too low, driving the car at night, it was as if the main beam was pointing to the ground and I could not see 10 meters in front.

I have the auto levelling adaptive lights that all seemed to work fine in the past. Also worth mentioning that this has happened to both lights. Usually when the headlights come on the tend to self level (turn on then adjust themselves). This is no longer the case, they just turn on. No faults.

I have tried to manually adjust the lights from the headlamp unit but again the aim seems to be low, it is as if the motor has seized, is this possible? When adjusting the left headlight, I left hearing a creak when it reached the top as if something was broken inside the unit.

Has anyone come across this issue before? Can this be repaired or will I be looking at new headlights?

Just had this on my daughters car, you need to check the self levelling plug is plugged home correctly or the bracket or rod isn't broken, she had to have a new alternator fitted and they didn't plug it back in correctly so it defaulted to about 10ft in front of the car.

Worth a look just to check, you will find the lights come straight back to normal straight away.

So, I had an issue on my L460, resulted in problem being fixed but created a new problem, the dealer had fiddled with something and forgot to plug the self levelling sensor back in, so I found it and plugged it in and hey presto, worked perfectly. My daughters Disco Sport had a new alternator fitted a coupe of weeks ago and she had the same problem also, they forgot to plug the connector in properly, (on disco sport its on drivers side front axle)so again headlights were lighting up 2ft in front of car. I also checked the plugs at the top of suspension strut in engine bay as well. And again a 30 second fix.

Just found this for L405, looks like L460 as I thought.

Ive tried to locate the self levelling sensor but it is dark, I will try again tomorrow as I will also be able to put the car on the ramp.

There are no faults that come up but I thought to plug in the GAP tool to see if it picks up any faults. If the self levelling sensor is not connected, would it trigger a fault code to come up on the dash or the GAP tool? The suspension works as it should and no issues raising or lowering.

If an arm is broken it wont throw a fault I wouldn't have thought
