dash cams !!! experience /advice

hello all !

has anyone had a Blackvue dashcam fitted (I'm looking at the DR970 2CH latest one ).

I hear conflicting reports about battery drainage (with ALL dashcams in parking mode) however I'm told that will all dashcams (including the DR970) the suer can set the camera to turn off (in parking mode) if voltage drops below a minimum (say 12.4 volts) - obviously the minimum ca be set higher but then parking mode time will be limited since the L460 drops quite quickly after engine is turned off.

Just looking for any experience/advice from members .

Bytheway the 2ch DR970 costs about £570 plus £250 for fitting @ TTW/Blackvue main distributor in Notttingham.

I am also looking so would be interested in the answer... on my L405 the Nextbase i had drained the battery so i had to remove it when at home. Can you remove the Blackvue? Turning it off just puts it too sleep! But i now have the P550e hybrid so I assume as it has a huge battery that wont be a problem??? Or do they connect to a different battery?

Interested to know which Dashcams people went for and their experience. My Nextbase 622GW had great pictures for holiday snaps, but the app was so difficult to use i have to wait to get home to download the pictures i wanted to keep. And in the heat the camera would fall off the screen. & the battery drain. Hence seeing if there is now anything better!

In my experience of BlackVue dashcams on the L405, it drains the battery quickly. Yes you can set a voltage at which the dashcam turns off but this is soon after you have left in practice. You can buy a battery for a Blackview dashcam but it’s expensive.

I had the LR dashcam fitted in my L460 prior to delivery. The front/back cameras remain awake and record movements until the vehicle goes to sleep. I don’t know how they wired it in but it works. I wouldn’t go back to the hassle of a BlackVue dashcam. MY23 D350 HSE

I had the LR dash cam fitted to my L460 a month ago and am very happy with it.

As Phil noted although it is not fully integrated with the car (so you can’t view the images on the infotainment screen etc) it is intelligently connected electrically so you don’t worry about battery issues.

The install is pretty clean visually, too.

From my initial interest in it I now forget it is there mostly - but I do like the reassurance it is there if anything ever happens.

In summary I am glad I went with the LR product and would make the same choice again.
