Are your fuel pumps ok and providing pressure?

Low fuel pressure will cause the car to crank and not start.
Had this every time my fuel level dropped to about 1/3 a tank. When this happened, could clearly see air in the clear bit of fuel line by the LP filter in the engine bay.

But, 3 fuel pumps in the TD6.
Tank pump with syphon booster in the saddle tank. This was my problem, couldn't get fuel out of one side of the tank. Suspect it failed and the LP pump managed to suck fuel out of the right hand saddle where the pump is fitted.
LP pump under the car, behind a cover just in front of rear left hand wheel.
HP pump bolted to the engine.

Diagnostics wise, my TD6 is very temperamental as to code readers. Only one I found that accesses everything no problem is the GAP tool and a chinesium Delphi knockoff. Tried a few others but with varying success reading data from various modules. No rhyme or reason behind it but almost all of them failed on instruments and ecu/transmission. Problem is the instrument cluster acts as a gateway for most diagnostics.

Also, crank sensor will stop it firing and won't produce an error code. Cam sensor will stop it firing and will report an engine speed code.

What i did learn with this car though, think old school when diagnosing it. The electrics aren't as clever as you think they are.
