L322 Upper tailgate wont click shut?

Big Cry my 2011 L322 td4.4 The top tailgate will not stay shut. I have had a look and the latch part is just moving without any resistence as though its become disconected from something inside the lock. The keyfob seems to work it by the noise I can hear. I just cant get it to stay shut?
Any ideas please I can't lock my car or alarm it. I assume it couldn't be a relay or somthing.
thanks everyone!

The upper tailgate latch closing is completely mechanical - it can be latched closed by hand when the tailgate is open. The unlatching to open is electrical. I believe it's like cocking a pistol - closing the latch tensions a spring to a locked position and opening it (electrically) lets the spring-lock go.

Open the tailgate and move the latch to the right with your thumb until it catches. Then push the button on the upper tailgate to open it. That's how it 'should' work.... The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile
