After a bit of a pothole incident I found I have broken this little plastic 'H' bracket that usually sits just behind the nearside front wheel. This means I now have diesel pumping all over the place.

In their wisdom, JLR only sell it as part of a full kit that includes a new low pressure fuel pump and fixing brackets. Has anyone seen these for sale anywhere or have any idea about how I might get a new one?

It looks like it has some kind of vent at the end of the horizontal part of the H. If you can't tell from the photo the H is now in four pieces.

The fuel pump and extras kit (LR038431) is £570.85 whilst the fuel pump (LR023043) itself is £322.94. the extra £247.91 seems rather steep for the fuel pump bracket and other bits I don't really need.

Ironically, I bought a new genuine fuel pump a few weeks ago for my other L405 for £322.94. The £68.78 for the kinked return tube (LR036780) [shown in the photos] isn't too bad but it does make the unwanted fuel pump mounting kit rather expensive.

Is this just profiteering from JLR or do these normally not break?

you could probably make it up out of barbed fittings, by the looks of it it's just a 6mm and 8mm pipe braced together, do away with the push fit fittings, warm the PVC pipe up and push it on. Current

I was thinking about knocking something up in aluminium tube nut im not sure how to reproduce the filter/vent on the end if the centre part of the H.

My gut feel is that the H piece is either:

A pressure relief valve which opens if the tank pump over-sends to the secondary pump. The valve will open and the excess will flow back to the tank. Likely to prevent the tank pump over-working against the secondary pump.

or a check valve which prevents the fuel falling back towards the tank.

or some legacy setup which is capped off and just re-used from something else in the JLR product line.


To be honest, it's that broken, I would cut it open and see what's inside to figure out what it does (if anything).

As an interim, as mentioned above, replacing the sections with straight pipes is not likely ( as far as aI can tell from reading the workshop manual ) to adversely affect the working of it all.

If it helps, those connectors are SAE fuel line connectors ... it is possible to get them such that you could rig something up and still use the existing clips on the hoses that connect to the H-piece ... For example:

For the return line ( the longer left pipe in your picture of the H-piece ), you could use 2 male connectors joined with a short piece of rubber fuel pipe.

I'd imagine you could do the same for the send line, as it looks like the top-right pipe ( missing in your picture above ) is just a rubber pipe clamped onto a plastic male end ... so again, 2x male connectors might suffice.

It's certainly an approach I would try first, and could save you a ton of money. V8 or else ...

The only way to buy a new plastic H-pipe.

So have you taken apart the old one to see what the cross pipe does ? V8 or else ...

Have you considered asking a breaker?
