Hasting Direct car insurance - questions out of the blue

I’ve been with Hastings since summer with the Ff, and other cars previously.
Today, out of the blue, email from them seeking to confirm policy details.

Provide photo or receipt for the steering lock with a pic of my driving licence next to same.

Provide pic of my car key with the signal blocking device or receipt with a pic of my driving licence next to same.

Provide a pic of my vehicle on my driveway together with the location of the address.

Pics to be taken after 30/10/25, if not supplied by 6/11/25, insurance will be cancelled!

I have never heard of such an approach by an insurance company but checking mr Google shows otherwise for Hastings.

I checked my online account with Hastings and sadly yes, this is genuine and not an organised crime group phishing to target my vehicle.

I could suggest more but are we RR owners now being targeted as too much of a liability? Oh, and I live in a quiet village with a very low crime rate- just boisterous kids now and then.

Any one else had this from Hastings Direct?

I was also with Hastings last year and never had to do any of that. They added £300 to last years premium so I told them to get ...... off.

That’s the concern. I’ve had the ff with them since June this year and then out of the blue, these ‘policy confirmation’ questions. Like I am some sort of liar!!

It could be that you may have failed to read the small print when taking out the policy. Easily done, I've nearly got caught. In my case I'd completed the online enquiry confirming no tracker fitted and got the quote. Buried in the t's&c's it quietly mentioned that I was to get a tracker fitted within 28 days! Nope!

My SL was with Hastings and it asked for proof of NCD well into the policy. Fair enough request I thought as it was not supplied or requested when I switched to it. 2012 Vogue TDV8 in Aintree green over sand

Actually I didn’t miss anything in the small print when I went with Hastings. I ticked all relevant boxes concerning steering lock, faraday pouch, parked on driveway, active tracker subscription etc,.

Hastings ‘Policy Review Team’ appear to be actively checking for evidence of what has been declared. I understand Insurance companies seeking to raise more funds ( rip off Britain), or limit their exposure to liability, but this is a pretty weird way of dealing with customers. The evidence should be asked for at time of application which I would have gladly provided rather than being asked 5 months later ( with a 7 day time limit under threat of cancellation) and having to take time out photographing and emailing. I wonder if AI is involved in this process?

So if you are with Hastings Direct, keep your eye out for a request (demand), to prove what you declared at the time of your application.

I haven’t had any of this nonsense with my Bentley GTC ( although it’s with a different Insurer)
