De-cat for FFRR

I've been looking into de-catting my Supercharged, it seems like a bit of a no-brainer, but in searching for a de-cat pipe for the S/C, I came across a company which offers a de-cat for the TD6.

It seems like a bit of a no-brainer, promising better consumption and more power. What is the downside ?

The company which does the de-cat are called powerspeed2008, I won't link to their site or ebay, but I'm sure anybody interested will find them.

So has anybody had it done? Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Not if it has LPG, but then the new test people are banging on about will be looking for the cat unless the replacement pipe has abox in it as well...

I was speaking with an exhaust manufacturer yesterday regarding catalytic converters and he was saying everyone who has had the cat removed from their vehicle will be in trouble next MOT time as they are going to be included in the test as from next year.

He did however say that if the interior had been knocked out and the exterior was original it would be extremely difficult for the tester to prove there was no cat.

Definitely a fail from 1 1 2012 if you have no cat in place on a spark ignition engine and the car was built with one in place, spark ignition includes lpg.
No problem with compression ignition engines, take cats off if you like. Mot test as at present.

Is that right for LPG as the rules for LPG were just smoke test rules as a specific exclusion?

According to the new Inspection Test Manual it is.
There's no differentiation for lpg, all spark ignition engines are tested the same be they petrol, lpg or whatever.
I think the sales of aftermarket cats will see an increase in January. Very Happy

Is it a visual check? It's pretty straightforward to ensure that there's no visible difference. Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Does removing the cats not increase the emission levels?

My BMW 545 just squeezed past on its last MOT and that was with the original exhaust......... Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Diesels are usually just a smoke test.

LPG used to be the same but is obviously changing now which will defintely have a big hit on a lot of people who have had them off at install time.
