Maybe. Remember how sh Censored ite Freeview was (before it was called "Freeview" - 1998, OnDigital) - the BBC's engineers fixed it so it was technically acceptable, and now it's fine. If they can fix DAB (and that must be easier than TV, surely), I'd think it's got a good future. I have, however, been wrong before... Whistle Graham

Never liked it myself, The audio stream is based on MP2 algorithms which sounds worse than MP3, tinny, hollow and generally more like medium wave radio. Yep, I'd say it's doomed, well hopefully it is. Unless it improves big time I shall stick to FM.

Well, yes. At the moment, that's right, but surely we can do better now, almost 15 years later; and a really well engineered digital radio service would probably be better than (most) FM broadcasts. Graham

Yeah, one would think so. I never really bought into the whole digital being better argument though. When all is said and done, digital is still only a sample, not the whole thing.

That said, the more oversampling and higher sampling rates nowadays make it almost imperceptible even in a controlled environment, never mind a car.

But the MP compression algorithms are shockingly bad, bordering on painful to listen to. They are never going to be able to replace FM. After all, you can't make a silk purse form a Sow's ear.

Dom.
