Battery Terminal "pyrotechnic charge"

Hi everyone

I just joined the Forum so be gentle with me!!!

Got a quick question.

I had a flat battery so I disconnected it and put it on charge, then I read in the manual that there is a "pyrotechnic charge" on the Positive teminal and connecting the battery should only be attempted by qualified personnel.

Should I be concerned?

Also, what fun and games can I expect when I come to start it up again with regards to remote locking, key codes, immobiliser, radio codes etc...?

Any help appreciated!

Ian

Why did you disconnect to put it on charge ( i guess your charger would not reach)

Disconnected & reconnected many a time no issues

Hi,

You can reconnect with no problems.
Always disconnect the battery lead unless using an intelligent charger which doesn't exceed 14.4 volts charging voltage (older chargers can increase the voltage to sometime 16-17volts, which can damage the ecu's.

After disconnection, just start up, then turn the steering full lock to full lock to reset the steering sensor & get rid of the suspension inactive message.

Regards
Steve

posted from the owner's manual:

If the vehicle power supply has been
interrupted, ABS and DSC will be deactivated
(the relevant warning lights will illuminate).
They can be reactivated by driving a short
distance or by turning the steering wheel from
full lock to lock, with the engine running and the
vehicle stationary. The ABS and DSC warning
lights will extinguish when the systems are
reactivated.

Steve

Thanks for the advice

Got the car back on the road today, no problems. Well apart from the usual niggles from the sound system!

Did the "lock to lock" thing and it worked! warning signs went out and everything was back to normal. Left a couple of divits in the tarmac though!

Now, about that sound system, anyone else experiencing a high pitched hum at low revs? or should I start a new post?

Thanks again

Hi Ken, Thats strange, try:
2007MY page 256,
2008MY page 271,
2009MY page 249.

I doesn't really matter because if you drive a short distance it'll sort itself out anyway Smile

Cheers
Steve
