Had the yellow 'Check Engine Light' come on this afternoon. 2nd time its happened in a just over a month, see [http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic7860.html here].

As per previous thread, engine starts and runs smoothly. The 'fix' last time was to clear the fault code and test drive, which didi not reproduce the issue, so not really a fix as such.

So, before I take it back to a stealer, any suggestions for trouble shooting?
Is it worth disconnecting the battery?
Will this clear the fault code? If so, what are the things I need to do once the battery is reconnected? Steering lock to lock, something about the sunroof, anything else?

What was the fault code last time? Mine seems to come on sometimes with code 430, something about catalytic converter efficiency. I reset it with the IID and drive on happily. Never an issue, just slightly annoying. Great to have the IID and be able to reset it so quickly!  2012 SDV8 Vogue SE

My SC displayed a transmission fault - limited gears error message followed by the EML lit when I turned the ignition on today, I cycled the ignition switch and the message has gone but the EML remains lit. The car drives fine, so I'm going to leave it for a few days to see if it clears itself.

Perhaps the cars protesting against all the bloody fireworks.

EML dont sound like the result of a transmission fault, this would come on due something with the engine, not sure i have read that the batt probs would bring on the eml but some one on here may of had it, but my guess would be that its a fault on the engine system, check the fault again and ask for the error code.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

My battery was replaced less than 12 months ago, whilst it could be faulty I think it's unlikely to be the cause in my case.

true, i think the fault is with the engine, yes could be an injector,coil or sensor but i think the best and only way is to have the fault read, V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

A common cause of the eml coming on on petrol engined cars is a fault with an oxygen sensor. The V8 has 4
The "fault" can often be cleared by taking out the oxygen sensors and cleaning them, if you can get them out of the exhaust in one piece, they tend to fix themselves in place.
Possibly worth a try. If it doesn't work, new sensor.

Almost all EML lights are due to emissions, and as stated most are O2sensor problems. My last one was a bank running lean. A quick reset and LPG retune and 8months later still hasn't returned. When I have checked recently had an O2 sensor wide open error so guess I have one on the au out. @ bozman - Fault last time was running lean on bank 1-4, but I didn't get the actual code.

Don't think transmission is an issue, shifting smoothly through the gears both up and down. O2 sensors for the 1-4 bank are definitely worth checking does anyone have an idiots guide?

A faulty injector would also cause a lean condition, however I suspect you would hear and feel the poor/rough running if that was the case.

Will get the fault read and respond back for info.

Slightly OT - what's an IID? Assume it's a fault reader, got any details? 2006 Supercharged

Running lean could also be an air leak on the induction side. The engine getting extra unmetered air up the air to fuel ratio. Quite common on te 4.4 due to perished breather pipes but not sure about the supercharged jag engine. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]
