Whisky

I've recently developed a taste for Whisky for some strange reason. I've always liked a JD with coke but never really liked neat whisky until a couple of months ago when I was handed one at a party. Probably my old age again!

I've just finished a bottle of Glenmorangie Lasanta which was nice. Today, I've bought a 14yr old bottle of Glengoyne from M&S. Also nice

So, to all the Whisky drinkers - What's your favourite? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Like you I love JD. You should try JD Silver Select - delicious!

As to whisky, I prefer non-peaty types, and I really like Balvenie Signature, or Balvenie Doublewood.

It's very personal thing, as a lot of people like the peaty island malts, but for some reason thay make me sneeze! Mr. Green Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

I've tried the Silver Select and the Gentleman Jack. Both very nice! (hic)
There was one at the airport when we went on holiday- apparently only available at the airport too. The name escapes me now.. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Harrods sell a bourbon thats about £85 a bottle called papa something or other, but they wouldn't let me taste it! Censored

There's also a JD single barrel which is rather tasty!
Thumbs Up

Edit - found the papa stuff :-

Oh where do I start , first their is no such thing as a bad single malt so keep experimenting but each area has a character you will recognise and like or dislike but the only real rule is never ever EVER put tap water in your whisky it contains chlorine which reacts which the phenols and other high aromatics and either creates or over exaggerates that TCP character you get especially with a peaty malt .Happy hunting Thumbs Up 2008 MY Supercharged

The JD's single barrel & Gentleman Jack are both nice, I'd highly recommend you try Blanton's as a premium bourbon. I've never really liked any of the JD versions neat, whereas I'll happily sip the Blanton's with a bit of ice.

That's led to an interest in Whisky, but I still prefer the Bourbon flavours. 2006 Supercharged

Damn, beaten to it. Number 2 on my list.

Yep, number 4 on my list.

So, number 1 would be Lagavulin 21YO lowland malt. Smokey and peaty, smooth, rich with a nose of blackberries.
Number 2 would be Auchentoshan 3 wood. As above. Like Lagavulin but more delicate and subtle, made sweeter with the bourbon cask aging.
Number 3 would be Bruichladdich. a lighter and easier going whisky for the days when I just want a drink with a meal.
Number 4 would be Bowmore darkest. Moving to the more fiery tastes this one has the toffee and plum undertones but definitely has some fire in its belly.
Number 5 is the Glenfiddich Caoran Reserve. Like the Auchentoshan but without the bourbon cask finishing making it less sweet. Almost a "Lagavulin Light"

For anyone interested in understanding more about decent malts, check out www.thewhiskyexchange.com There are some good write ups and reviews there and they also have special offers. Just about all mine is ordered from there.

For the readers among you, ISBN 1-4053-0234-8 is the book. Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion.
