I've had exactly the same today, bought a new sensor, fitted it, heat shield on the transmission can be tough, but plenty of WD40 around the 22mm probe came out easy.
Checked the MAP was totally so ... |

I wouldn't beat yourself up too much.

Hi,
Were dimming side mirrors standard on all L322's, looking at a 2012 Westminster, crossing over from the Defender dark side, you get so used to side mirrors vibrating, anything is a bonus. |
