Yes they are, I didn’t know that it was possible to separate it from the intake. Thank you for the tip. I will look for those bolts as I dont have any stud extractor 2011 Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I’ve done my cooler and the Orings today.

I reckon all in it took me about 41/2 hours. There are a few extra steps to the 405 which aren’t needed on the 322. But the basic stuff in this thread is very useful and is a good guide to follow.

So for the 405:

First off remove the windscreen wipers……

15mm socket, mine came off easy but I’ve had a new screen in the last few years.

Next remove the left and right rear plastic covers over the brake reservoir and fuse box.

Now remove the scuttle, just the plastic screw out clips holding it on then its just clipped into the groove below the windscreen.

Next job was to take off the strut braces 4 bolts each. 55NM when you do them back up….

It’s then a matter of dismantling the secondary bulkhead centre section. It’s in the WM but basically there are a few bolts on the section by the fuse box, a medium section under that held on by a three bolts. Then the main bit can be now be removed, 5 bolts IIRC…

The rest is as per the start of this thread, but you don’t have the brittle coolant parts on the 405 to deal with.

I used my oil sucker to remove some extra coolant via the coolant fitting on the side of the cooler to minimise risk of contamination when I took it off, think I took a couple of litres out. I then changed the oil for good measure too. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Great advice through this post thanks everyone.

Are people turning the engine over without firing to avoid oil starvation? What’s the best method to achieve this, on a petrol engine I would just remove HT leads/coil pack connectors, but not sure on a diesel and something that’s accessible!

It’s not mentioned in the WM as a procedure at the end, so I don’t think it’s needed. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Great write up, this is my weekends job.

Had a service carried out 300miles ago, now burning oil smell & oil on the drive way rear cross member, planning on dropping the coolant, gently push some shop air through the cooler to try and avoid any water contamination, as the oil i used was Ravenol C1 so wasn't the cheapest for sure.

Not knowing the age of the coolant seems fair, hoping not to crack the coolant hose on near the air intake.

Thinking the new oil, didn't help the old gaskets.

Will be replaced with a new cooler.
