About 500 miles of English then French motorway on cruise control and then we start losing speed up a hill, so I disconnect the cruise control and push the pedal .... nothing happens ... By the time we get to Martigny, gear selection is erratic and we can only crawl up the hairpins at max 2000rpm and about 20mph - so I think that something died

Nothing on any display to indicate something might be wrong (but it is).
Gearbox (surely can't be linked to my annual transmission fluid change last week) ?
Transmission oil cooler (might be better) ?

Any recommendations for a good transmission specialist near Verbier or should I just bite the bullet and find the nearest main dealer (I'm guessing Montreux or Lausanne) and call out the flatbed recovery truck ?

When did you last change the fuel filter?

About 18 months ago on the last service - is that a known issue (he said very very hopefully...) ?

Can you rev the engine with the car at standstill?
I think we might see a few fuel filter problems on cars over the next few weeks, given that a lot of fuel tanks in garages "ran dry" over the last few days.
I dread to think what sort of c p garages have been selling to people.

I pulled into a lay by and blipped the throttle last night (it revved ok) - the problem manifested itself when in gear, I couldn't get revs to rise ..

Fuel pump is my guess, there are several, and if one fails you'll have vastly reduced fuel pressure which would account for the inability to build up revs. 2012 SDV8 Vogue SE

Ok thanks - I think that I'll have to get the recovery truck round and let the main dealer have a look - I didn't bring enough tools out with me to change fuel pumps!

At least if it is, then it should be cheaper than a new gearbox (he said hopefully!)

Low loader retrieved the car to Emil Frey in Sion, so I might hear tomorrow (but I'm hoping for a fuel issue too!).

We love Switzerland and spend a fair bit of holiday time there

HELP - Emil Frey in Sion now saying that they won't be able to diagnose in less than 2 weeks - does anyone have any alternative garage suggestions?

I'm sure that I could ship and fit a new low pressure fuel pump and filter in less than 2 weeks - so maybe I should be asking for another dealership to have a look?

theyy are close to where you are and are LR independants . if they can't help you with the TD , they can à least point you to another independant .

This sounds a strangely familiar story. Some years back my P38 refused to start on a trip to Switzerland. The main dealrrs could not look at it for three weeks so I had it repatriated by the breakdown insurance company. That took about 10 days and our local indy took 25 mins to diagnose and fix!

I wrote to Land Rover after the experience and was told they couldn't do much as it was all franchised out!

Sorry it does not help 'Vaguely Vogue'.
