United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Java Black

Do you reckon its more likely to be the rings etc rather than the breather tube assembly because the smoke is blue. I don't think the previous owner took much care with this car and my friendly mechanic is too scared to give me the bad news. I just want to drive her, she is the cleanest uunused car in my street.

I will keep you informed.

Regards

Elena

Just to rule out the td6 engine does appear to smoke under acceloration but its mostly noticeable at night when you look in the rear view mirror

Mine did and i did an oil change removed / blanked the egr and replaced the crank case breather and its never smoked again at night or under load

The above is cheaper than turbo or rings and worth a try

On the egr valve get the allisport one as its a perfect fit and guaranteed for life i believe onto no6 Range Rover

It's a thick heavy blue smoke which stinks. I can start the car, no smoke, drive for a mile lots of smoke, pull over and let the idle until the smoke stops then carry on with my journey and no more smoke. But I am too scared to drive her at the moment until I know I am not making thingsorse. Big Cry

have you changed the breather yet? if not theres no point worrying until you have. most common cause of burning oil and turbos being replaced unnecessarily on all bmw engines is the breather being blocked causing excessive pressure in the engine forcing oil and pressure out were it can which is normally the turbo seals and valve stem rubbers casing alot of smoke out the exhaust.

Hi Arron, not yet. The mechanic I know really well works for Vauxhall and is waiting for his friend who works for Land Rover to let him know what to do. I think I will order the breather tube assembly and ask him to start there. The trouble is I don't want to tell a mechanic what to do, especially a mechanic who doesn't like forums. But you guys own these cars and know what you have done to put things right, perhaps I will have a go myself.

Cheers

Elena

Better having the Vauxhall mechanic fix your FFRR, the Land Rover mechanic won't have a clue what he's doing Whistle

Probably right there, it's amazing that they have never had a car in that smokes or never worked on the EGR valve Shocked

Your money your car! Mechanic should do whatever you tell him. Worst he should do I say "told you so". Know which option I would be doing. £40 on a breather or £1kish on turbo pistol rings? [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

I am not being forceful enough, he should know how impatient women are, if he doesn't come back to me today then I will have a go myself at the weekend as I can't wait any longer.

All done and Smokey Jo is no longer Smokey . The filter was absolutely solid , why aren't these changed during normal servicing . Now onto the next project.

Because the parts changers can't be arsed to do it. And if it isn't mentioned in the schedule then it isn't done. Lets not start about changing TD6 gearbox oil.
