Cleaning interior pillar plastics.

I've had marks all over the inside of my pillars (they're cream plastic in my car) since I bought the car.

I'd tried everything to clean them - hot water with washing up liquid, Swarfega, meths - all sorts - but the marks were more like scuffs and wouldn't budge.

Anyway...I was tinkering about today and remembered I had some 3M rubbing compound kicking about (it's called "Perfect It" and is a very fine abrasive for finishing paintwork etc).

Thought I'd give it a try on my immovable marks. It worked! Thumbs Up

Well that looks excellent.

Have plenty of scuffy bits round my tailgate on the trim, and mine's ivory...........

May try a very small amount of car polish then.

Its not textured plastic, so shouldn't get ingrained........

Just to be clear, I used an abrasive rubbing compound rather than a polish. My interior plastic actually IS slightly textured - at least it's not "shiny flat" if you know what I mean? I just used a kitchen wipe to remove any residue afterwards.

I'm guessing that actually something like Cif (or another abrasive cleaner) may have worked equally as well. Past (too many to list, but a few favs)...

I know polish isn't the same, just wondered whether it was "near enough"........

Food for thought....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

My plastic has some scratches that seems to show there is some kind of top coat / finish on this plastic so rubbing down does the job nicely .

be careful as most trims are painted with a thin layer of trim paint, this can come of leaving the bare plastic. Shocked V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

For any cleaning like this I have always found a Magic Sponge ( melamine foam ) works best , it will clean any marks off just about any surface without the use of a cleaning agent or solvent so you don't have to worry about destroying surfaces or leaving any marks / residue . 2008 MY Supercharged

.....also food for thought.........

gently gently catch your monkey, as it were.

A wet wipe is the most abrasive mine has had on it so far....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8
