Random baby help req

Hi Guys
I'm after some help from far and wide. My son is 2 and occasionally has a dummy BUT he is mega fussy. We have had 100's of dummy's from the most expense to the cheapest. Now being the fussy Censored he is he loves the cheapest Thumbs Up . This is where we need some help. He loves the sainsburys value dummy's, we started with 6 but we are now down to 1! I've found them online but the local sainsburys never has them and when ordered online they send an alternative. This is we're you guys could be a massive help if possible. If anyone shops online would they mind adding a few to there basket and I will pay for them plus postage, or if you go in-store would you mind putting a few in your trolley? These are the dummy's in question http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/groceries/index.jsp if anyone can help you would be a life saver! Bow down
Thanks

Oh God - parenting nazi alert:

Stop it now, solve you problem, stop it now!

Dummies are like fags to toddlers, do you want him going round at 5, at school still wanting a dummy?

If teething is the problem, child needs something harder to chew on.

As per Joe above I'm afraid. The sooner you break it the better. Best do it when they can be kept busy with something else or maybe use some reward system Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Sorry, but I also agree with the others.

My two have never had dummies. My son used his thumb from an early age and my daughter (17 months) is perfectly happy with nothing at all. Si. <This is my name.

Just to add fuel to the fire here.

When our youngest son was 2 and a bit we did him a deal re dummies. Spoke to him for a few weeks about getting rid of it coz he's too big now and then suggested he wrap it up and give it ( them actually) to Santp for his elves in return for a nice Xmas present from them.

We were dubious at first ( and a bit sad cos it means he grown up just a little bit more which goes so quickly) but... He helped wrap them up in Xmas paper and we hung them on the tree the day before Xmas.

He got a nice present and said he hoped the elves liked them as much as he liked his present and he never asked for them again.

I'd agree with above - find a way for him to be happy to let them go and you'll not regret it. Ash

My first 2 were not allowed dummies but my third had health problems and spent a lot of time in hospital Sad

Because he had breathing issues the nurses gave him a dummy to stop him crying and conserve his oxygen but took us ages to get him off it when he came home Evil or Very Mad

Distract him with a new toy instead and tell him it's broken but don't get a new one - blame sainsburys Laughing Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Thanks for the advice, and if he had a dummy all the time I would be worried, but as he only has it when he's in bed and gives it up when he gets out of bed I don't think it's to bad. We were just after these dummy's for stock as would rather phase them out with the putting in post, father Xmas method etc than just not have any one day. So if your in sainsburys etc any help would be great. [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

Difficult one this then. I don't have kids, but have nephews that are 4 and 8 now. Sometimes the dummy is the fastest way to a little bit of peace and quiet (not at 4 and 8 obviously !!).............though agree it may be an ideal opportunity to blame Sainsbury's as Muddywheels suggests..........

My weird sense of humour had me thinking........

My god what are we coming to on this forum, we'll have to have a new section for debating toddler parenting issues.

My eldest didn't have dummies, but sucked his thumb, which he didn't stop till far too late (around 5-6), and believe me we tried, but it happened a lot at night, and you can't keep waking him up to get his thumb out.

As a result of sucking his thumb, his teeth will need orthodentistry. So whilst I agree that dummies should be avoided, maybe they are OK in moderation, and certainly better than thumb sucking (I assume we're talking about narrow ones here, which won't cause the same problem as thumb sucking?)

I'll ask SWMBO to keep her eyes open for some later this week when she shops.

kids are like range rovers, each one is different ! One needs a bit more soothing than another.

Definately a good idea to phase them out with the bribes/ rewards. The Santa story is great ! Thumbs Up

We finally managed to get my oldest off her dummies by telling her that if she wanted the large disney stuffed toy she had to pay Mickey Mouse with all her dummies, as we did this at EuroDisney when she had just turned 3 this worked quite well Thumbs Up

If you can find a massive bribe that they really want this should work OK.

My youngest never wanted/needed a dummy, so luckily we only ever had the problem once!
