United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black

We're now in the south of France sat by the pool in the sunshine Cool

We joined a heavy traffic jam on the M11 which cost us about an hour, there was some terrential rain north of Paris which slowed us a little, and we lost a further half hour following the sat nav through small village to the nearest petrol station, as the wife handed the car back to me with insufficient fuel to get to the next service station. Apart from that, the only time we stopped was on the eurotunnel, to swap drivers and to fill up twice. Door to campsite site took 16.5 hours, and i can say for certain that there's no better place to eat up those miles than in a FFRR.

I couldn't have done it without my wife sharing the driving, and both the FFRR and the Trailer behaved perfectly.

Having done both driving in the day and getting frustratded sat in traffic jams, and having driven through the night, it's night time driving for me every time.

Paris Shocked You shouldn't have needed to go that way - it's never usually a good idea unless it's the middle of the night.

I do the Bordeaux run 3 or 4 times a year and the skiing run once.

It's a daunting distance the first time, but it just gets easier & easier Very Happy

^^^^ what he said. Dont need to go anywhere near paris to get south.
Calais-reims-dijon-lyon-aix en provence and onto the south coast, easy peasy. Very difficult to get lost. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

justin did say 'north of paris' so in his drunken state [ Mr. Green ] he might have meant the road from calais to riems , which technically is north..this is probably all bo!!ocks and he did go via paris then the a6/a7 to the south coast.. Laughing ... - .- -.

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black

Hi Stan,

I do this 5 times a year, I am first off to Tignes on Saturday (ski Race Training Camp), then I drive to Flaine in the Grand Massif near Chamonix, I will spend another week there then onto Saas Fee in Switzerland (Ski Race Camp) Razz back in September Twisted Evil Thumbs Up

I will then drive back straight from Saas Fee, no dramas,

To Flaine is just over 700 miles from my house, I get the 6:20 tunnel (much faster than ferries) we only stop for fuel & loo breaks, My wife will drive for 2 hours around my lunch time, I will eat on the move while she drives Very Happy we normally roll up around 5pm all in all its a really easy drive queues are non existent but I often travel out on the Friday especially holiday times.

I think as I am not normally the one passing out the money but I think its about 60 quid each way, far cheaper than flying as there is 3 of us now plus we take all our own food bikes etc, skis as you are restricted on luggage on planes.

We also use tesco's points card cheapest tunnel we have got via this is £3.46 Bow down for me its a no brainer Thumbs Up

YOu can always plane your route to take in places you may wish to see, of me its about getting there 80 mph dead easy & pretty straight forward.

You will have a great time :mrgreen:Oh & we take the dog also Bow down Mutt

Stan,

I have driven in France loads of times I have a home there, but I have now stopped driving on the toll roads at night as they a really poorly lit if all Evil or Very Mad & they don't have the cats eyes & reflectors so sometimes your bombing down at 70 ish & a bloody bend appears from nowhere Whistle Laughing

I made a decision to try were ever possibly to drive in the day time as much as possible, If I end up in a queue I would be surprised, but like another member said I use Audiobooks with the family & they really pass the time Bow down

4 days & counting Twisted Evil Cool Mutt

One last point - get the toll transponder (explanation in English here https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/what-is-liber-t), it is much easier slowing down to 30 and gliding through than stopping at the barrier and waking up your passenger to grab the ticket or feed in the credit card (or trying to lean over to the wrong side when driving solo). It used to be available from the French Sanef website under the "Telepeage Liber-T", but it looks like that is only for an address in France now ...
