I did Nottingham to Le Mans last month which was 220ish miles from Notts to Dover non-stop and then 285ish miles to Le Mans non-stop (started at 2am in the morning so empty roads nearly), each stint took about 3 hours and was just trundling along with cruis control on. Once you get to France the Autoroutes make driving easy as anything. All you need is strong coffee and a strong bladder and you'll find it a breeze. I was so relaxed at the end I managed to put up tents and gazebos and walk to the supermarket (for booze!!!) and then walk around watching some testing. Didn't feel like I'd driven 500+ miles at all. |

Stan - don't get hung up on time taken / distance. If you're going in your FF, you'll absolutely love it.

If its a driving holiday in the Alps then take your time and enjoy the journey. There are plenty of great little hotels to stay in every town/village on the way so why rush. Also worth noting that many of the A roads offer spectacular scenery and pretty fast progress for free....

Honestly, pay the toll, the roads are much better. It's almost silent cruising along them in a FFRR as the surface is so smooth. Expect to pay roughly around 1 Euro for 10 miles though. |
