United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Cairns Blue

Off to Limoges this weekend
Should be at Dover by lunch time tomorrow, going to have an afternoon around the castle and visit Battle etc always shoot through so wanted to break the journey up make it part of hols. Then early ferry and drive down to Limoges should arrive mid afternoon
Bit slower towing than solo but its only £10 for the overnight stop.
Friends do the same journey in one hit with the ferry being the rest stop but thats a bit to much with kids on onboard Mine was a blue one! Smile

Not that bad Stan. We do it with the Tintent every other year.

Tolls aren't too bad. I paid about 60 quid last time but I got a Sanef Tolling tag which is a lot more convenient. You get to use the tag lanes and drive through at about 30MPH instead of fumbling around for change at the booths. Google Sanef Tolling (or use this link)
https://www.saneftolling.co.uk/subscription?ref=RF-20110812-7AF06

Don't break it up over 2 days though. Utter waste of holiday time and makes it more like an endurance test. IF (and you're young and fit enough) you can cope with night driving, take a late Eurotunnel train (sod the ferry) and aim for driving off the train at about 10PM. Drive through the night whilst family are all tucked up with quilts. This is what I do, and I break it up into 3 hour chunks, stopping for coffee, fuel and comfort breaks only.

You'll arrive between 6am and 8am, family can all get up and go wash/freshen up. You can collapse with a coffe and a croissant and take a well earned snooze. Laughing

Dom.

those tags seem to be convenient dom ...i agree re the night travelling as we did a trip from just above 'le mans' to calais leaving at 9.30pm and getting to our home at 7.00am..loved listening to 'blue nord' radio at night.. ... - .- -.

Stopping off mid way is not that bad, as long as you make it more of a holiday and not just sleep break.

I like to arrive early afternoon in Dijon or another local town be a tourist eat out at the restaurants and go shopping etc then set off late morning after a breakfast and walk about. Tom

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Supercharged Supercharged Java Black

I did Nottingham to Le Mans last month which was 220ish miles from Notts to Dover non-stop and then 285ish miles to Le Mans non-stop (started at 2am in the morning so empty roads nearly), each stint took about 3 hours and was just trundling along with cruis control on. Once you get to France the Autoroutes make driving easy as anything. All you need is strong coffee and a strong bladder and you'll find it a breeze. I was so relaxed at the end I managed to put up tents and gazebos and walk to the supermarket (for booze!!!) and then walk around watching some testing. Didn't feel like I'd driven 500+ miles at all.

Stan - don't get hung up on time taken / distance. If you're going in your FF, you'll absolutely love it.
We did seven countries in 18 days last year around Europe covering 3k miles -it was perfect.
My admiration for the car grew massively - and I liked it alot before we went !

Enjoy !

Thumbs Up Where do you go after one of these . . . ?

If its a driving holiday in the Alps then take your time and enjoy the journey. There are plenty of great little hotels to stay in every town/village on the way so why rush. Also worth noting that many of the A roads offer spectacular scenery and pretty fast progress for free....

Time is on your side so relax and do not just speed past beautiful areas simply to get to your destination. Make the journey part of the holiday it may even be the best part Smile

Gaz

PS: Setting off for Austria via Germany on Monday.....

re the 'a' roads gary/andy, most route suggestions seem to make you go to REIMS and then DIJON,.. what other non toll routes are there . ... - .- -.

Honestly, pay the toll, the roads are much better. It's almost silent cruising along them in a FFRR as the surface is so smooth. Expect to pay roughly around 1 Euro for 10 miles though.
