Anyone bought these sidesteps?

As wifey and MIL are just 5ft on a good day I've been instructed to fit sidesteps. Not overly thrilled as I don't like the look but fair enough. So I bought these as they seemed same as Powerful UK ones for a bit less cash.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310342492860?ssP...1246wt_727

Have just tried fitting them and either I'm an idiot (definitely possible!) or they do not fit. When I say they do not fit, there is a 2" gap at the rear and a 1" gap at the front including where the mudflap is meant to fit up against the body (ie the steps are away from the body horizontally) Its not as if there is any adjustability in how you fit them.

I'll contact them tomorrow and ask what's going on, has anyone bought any of these? Also I'm considering sending them back for a refund and getting some from Powerful UK. Anyone bought the fixed steps from them? They look the same but perhaps they are better quality. Lloyd Barnes

those seem very cheap !
definately worth the risk I reckon.

can you not make the holes slotted by drilling some other holes so you can slide em in a bit to close the gap ?

Hi Rolo. Thats the thing. The way they fit there is no possibilty to adjust them short of cutting them up and re-welding them (hence why I can't see how I could have got it wrong). Question

They bolt to both a horizontal and vertical face under the car. Even if I slotted the inner mount, it would then just move the outer mount away from the vertical face it mounts to (almost impossible to explain in words!!!). Land rover even thoughtfully put all the captive nuts in place in the chassis so those can't be wrong either!! Attached the installation vid below.

Perhaps the other alternative is to break out the welder and get them re powder coated afterwards( the existing finish is pretty poor). I'd send them back and get Powerful UK ones but I think they are made by the same people. Even the backing card for the fixing kit looks the same as the one on Powerfuls video. If someone has used Powerfuls steps and they are good it would help me decide.

It does help a lot, thanks Steve. I wondered if they were the same. I'll have a look on EBay for some OEM steps. Failing that it's out with the welder. I know a lad who can powder coat for me for nothing so it could be a cost effective option. Lloyd Barnes

Strange, following your original link i read

So this statement is not true?.

I'd really love the deployable steps but I just can't justify two grand. I'd also buy the OEM fixed ones if they were £500 but understand they are a grand which seems an extraordinary price for some basic metal and rubber parts. Can't cost more than £50 max to make?! Sad

I'll have a look around at the breakers and if nothing appears by a week Friday then the cutting disc and welder is coming out!! The only choice will be whether to cut and shut the steps or the wife's legs Razz

Thanks for all the advice chaps Thumbs Up Lloyd Barnes

As DavidP has pointed out the seller is saying they are Originals - obviously not if they don't fit, so I'd say send him an email saying they are not OEM and ask for a refund Thumbs Up

I didn't think genuine LR fixed steps were that expensive. I think I paid about £650 for mine fitted at main dealer, so parts only price probably only 400 - 500 ????

Have you asked Dan "the parts man" for a supply price ?

Hi Rolo,

I thought they were more, in that case I'll definitely ask Dan for a price. If you notice, right at the end of the wording they sneak the word "style" in there. Either way they really don't fit!!!

For anyone considering buying these steps, I thought I'd post some pics up... Remember there is no adjustability at all, they bolt up using predrilled holes to preinstalled captive nuts on the FF's chassis legs. Perhaps you could live with the gap if it was constant all the way down the length, but then the mudflaps are an inch away from the body panel and can't go in further as they sit over the end of the step. I've seen some poorly made Censored in my time but these are hysterical!! Rolling with laughter

Lloyd & Rolo,
wow i missed the sneaky insert of 'style'. Cheeky old so'an'so's
As i read it i thought they were saying they were original - i'll have to read slower next time.
Apologies i thought it might help towards a refund.
Rgds

Why not get the chrome tube style ones or the black ones?? They are more hidden then and less obvious(in black) and dont require any faffing with the normal mudflaps Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
