turbo screech?

couple of weeks ago when leaving underground carpark got a squeeling noise for about 100 yards, didn't worry too much thought it was prob a belt slipping. this happened every few days for first week but now every time i go to and from work it squeels for first 1-200 yards. took to my local indy today and of course it woundn't squeel to order. booked in for a look tomorrow and as pulled away it squeels, mech looks at me and says sounds like turbo
will check all hoses and call me. so now can't to hear the good news. the wifes face was a picture when told.now going for a beer as could be last one.

It could just be a split intercooler hose, see THIS THREAD. Wink

Sometimes it can be down to the simplest things though.
My 300 TDi Disco it started squeeling, in this case I knew it was the drive belt as I sprayed as little WD40 onto the belt while it was squeeling and it stopped.
I changed the belt but it only lasted a couple of weeks before it started again. In the end it turned out that the tensioner pulley was slightly out of line, a common fault on the 300's, and all it took to fix was a washer placed behind the tensioner body. Fixed the problem for the next 5 years. Mr. Green

By all means, prepair for the worst but always hope for the best. Thumbs Up

Not a good idea to spray rubber belts with WD40 as it can ruin the rubber. Better to spray plain water on the belt which will not cure the squeak but does let you determine where the source of the noise is coming from

When you said underground car park I first thought of tyre squeal....... .

I agreee with the "dont use WD40 on rubber belts". Try wearing a pair of rubber gloves & spray them with WD40, they'll last about 10 seconds after that. You can use brake fluid for a longer lasting effect & as already mentioned it would rule out a belt problem one way or another.

The belt was shiny & cracked so it didn't really matter what I sprayed on it as it was getting replaced with a Gates belt anyway. Wink

picked up car today, garage can't find the cause of noise. have checked all hoses
and the turbo which seems ok. said to get second opinion as they don't want to put new turbo on if thats not whats causing the noise. spoke to Brian at Harris Mayes and taking it there in the morning see if he can
shed some light on the problem. all things crossed at the moment.

Mine has a screech on startup every now and again and i'm just putting it down to a belt covered in muck that needs cleaning off when the rest of the engine bay gets done as i've checked and nothing is amiss round there Sad Luckily if it does go prang its just PAS/AC/Alt that loses power and the engine is safe Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
