After my post a while ago on having a 25k budget.....well, a peach has arrived at my nearest official dealer for 32.5k. I could afford it at a stretch.

Get it bought, it's a TDV8 and I bet you were going to buy a TD6. You would regret it.

No point in driving round in something that is going to bankrupt you and you are worried about something breaking.

What's your initial reaction to £2k to replace a gearbox?

Mine was 'that's not too bad' - but if yours is 'hell fire that's a lot' then it's not a good move

I was considering a Porsche 996 Turbo and a full set of brakes (pads and discs) all round comes to approx 1.5k - I considered this to be reasonable considering the car in question, but others consider it excessive.

Replacing a gearbox on any car is going to be expensive, the difference is that it will probably be prohibitively expensive compared to the value of the car.

I find the RR cheap to maintain due to the abundance of replacement parts, pattern parts or parts from breakers. It only gets expensive if you need to visit the dealer. I borrowed the money for the RR, so I’m not in a great starting position should something bad happen, but thankfully I’m mechanically competent enough to be able to sort most issues myself.

This is a very valid point mate, as you say it is subjective to an individual. In my eyes you should never spent money on anything that i can not afford to run.
Buying a FFRR for £30 grand is nice but you have to bear in mind that if you go to a dealer you will be charged £100+ an hour for nothing, a service will cost you around £600; etc.. Can you afford that?

Luckily mine has the royal service (VIP package as they refer to it here in the UK) so I do not have to pay for my visits to the dealer, which is handy

hmm well i baught mine when it was about a year old which equates to about 25% of yearly earnings , BUT i do all my own servicing / maintenance work myself im in NO way being tight fisted its just that i can do a better job than the stealer can do and i know its done right  onto no6 Range Rover

now are you talking gross or net and are you including bonus's, dividend payments, any early pension payments, income from other sources(whether legal or not) interest on savings(not much at the mo) ETC ETC ETC the list goes on!

Its not an easy one to answer and one that i think a few might be reluctant to answer as it would be quite an easy deduction to work out the salary based on the current valuation of there car(which we all have a pretty good idead about)
