Strange temperature gauge

Been looking at this at the temp gauge the last few weeks
And noticed it fluctuating when driving,
The car warms up as normal but can take a while
When driving the temp gauge moves between the
centre and the first white mark to the lower left as in cooler

I've only noticed this since doing my front conversion
Could it be that or is it more serious?

Or has any one else had the same thing

I've got an 04 td6 vogue with 64000 RANGE ROVER 04 TD6

I'm sure it stopped centre before the conversion.

But Shirley a little bit more air wouldn't make it change so much
Because last Xmas when it was -10 it was in the middle.

Could it be something else advice needed please RANGE ROVER 04 TD6

All checked and in good order no cracks etc.

Could it be the pump? But would this cause it to go higher? RANGE ROVER 04 TD6

this symptoms let me think the thermostat.
The thermostat is in the pump.
If you need to change it, I highly recommend this DIY by Joe90 :

I'm not sure you can test it, but on old cars, I use to test my thermostat in boiling water. If it open, when water was boiling, it means the thermostat works perfectly.

sorry for the english

according to 'rave' its located here.. The thermostat is integral to the coolant pump housing on the inlet side of the cooling circuit.

Better than your French maybe, than you English, I would like... Cool
I think It can be the thermostat, because if it stay open, all the coolant run through the engine and the radiator ; it means that It can take a while untill the temperature is correct. After that, when you drive the car, your speed contribute in coolant system by aerodynamic. If your thermostat stay open, the liquid coolant can't stay warm by staying in the motor

IIRC a thermostat stuck open would create similar symptoms, coolant temp dropping as its always routed through radiator, sometimes dropping when airflow through rad is high i.e vehicle speed etc. .... Is the heater working ok? .... Could always access the hidden binnacle menu to see what the actual coolant temp is reading and check it against a thermometer reading of the coolant after its left for a while to cool and depresurise.

Are that makes sence now.

Heater works fine, I'll try putting heater on while driving at high speed to see if it drops,

Thanks
