Thanks Steve, i have spent a little while looking for it and found it, by all accounts it seems and excellent mod. And well received in the BMW world.

For anyone who is interested this is the link (Its in German so best use google translate or something). http://www.ecotuning-automatic.de/ECO-Tuning-Automatik/index.html

I will be doing this mod, but not until i have the JE stage one done.

If you want to change the TD6 to a manual box as a fun project, that I can understand perfectly (sounds like a very interesting project indeed), If you do it for extra liability then I suggest to go the full Sonax mods. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Glad you find it - but I just tried it and it seems to be offline (googled the link too, so it's not spelling). Oh well.

Do let us know how it works out.

My kraut is crud but is that saying the mod is abou €125-150 including the shipping??

From what I can see they chane the module to send the lockup pulses, or lack there of, earlier and also for the clutches??

If so I think I may dip my toe on this as the slipping at anything more than a feathered accelerator and below 35mph is the biggest let down of the td6 setup to me!!! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I agree, i love my FFRR but the gearbox is far from perfect, it is wastefull and works harder than it needs to. The mod looks like a usefull change to the driveability but also the longevity of the box. As with less tcc slip, there will obviously be less wear on that but it should also produce less heat. This combined with a sonnax valve replacement done we should have good solid reliable boxes Whistle .

I have also read that you can increase the line pressure by tightening the calibration screw on the main pressure control valve (maybe some one with more experiance on this box could confirm this- RR phil?) This also looks like a good idea, only a small pressure increase (Around 10-15%) esp if you are tuning/chipping the engine.

The hptuning link does a good job of explaining the mod and reasons why if any one is interested, thanks ahebron.

Regards, Luke

Its back.
Kingpleb when you do the mod please post asap as I am interested and am sure many others would be too.
It looks to me like you send your gearbox ecu to them for the mod, is this correct? Bit of a Censored to send this from New Zealand.

Ill have to check when I get a minute to send them an email but the language barrier may be the hardest part but ill see what they say.

For people further afield the ony option may be to get a used one and get it sent over but I'm not sure what they go for as I've never heard of one failing do I'd hope prices are low for you all.. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I have sent them an email asking a few questions but like you the hardest part is the language barrier. Google translate helps but not a lot. I did mention that there would be a few FFRR owners interested if they had a english site.

Hi Adrian......no probs I am surprised at the interest the post has raised to be honest, seems like I've opened a big can of wiggly worms, but at least it has sparked some interesting replies and good debate which must be good for all of us on here.

Thanks Steve for your comments a bit ago, and your offer of assistance. A bit more info for those interested. This conversion can be done fairly easily as far as the gearbox fittment goes, but there is a catch... It is easy to put a box from a 2WD BMW into it by the looks of it, but it is a no brainer that I wouldn't go down this path.

Still having trouble finding out exactly what 5 and 6 speed box was used behind this engine on the X5 though... Once I can find that out and find one to play with, then I'm a bit stuck. This is a long term sort of deal for me though, so I'll bide my time.

Once I've got my head around actually fitting the box, I'll start to worry about how the car will cope electronically with this change.

Cheers - Gav
