Battery Flat and car down to bump stops.

Car parked on drive in freezing cold conditions for a few days ended up down on bump stops and wouldn't start - flat battery (new Bosch).
I'm guessing slow leak from suspension and compressor running from time to time to replace lost air - does this make sense?
Anyone had similar?
Could it be anything else electrical? Geoff

Hi Geoff,
The RR self-levels when the motor is off - but the compressor does not run.Sounds like something is not going to sleep. Or the new battery is defective (can happen). Did you have this prob before?

Yep, this is a new battery because the old one had the same symptoms, wouldn't start on cold mornings never mind firing up the FBH.
Anything I can check? Geoff

Actually there is one thing that often does not got to sleep and that is the BT module as my phone just stays paired with the car and I need to turn it off on the phone to stop it happening. Geoff

Unfortunately finding current leaks takes time.

Very first thing you can try is to measure the voltage with running engine on the poles and on the clamps attachment points. Should be well into 14 volts (14.5 ish). Preferably tested with maximum users on (all lights, full blower(s) etc. etc.). If that seems OK then start measuring current loss.

First thing is to let the ECUs go to sleep by leaving the car (with unlocked doors) for a while. Then remove the negative clamp and measure current drain between the neg. clamp and neg. pole on the battery. That will only tell you how much is being used.

Then the next thing is start looking at users, like the FSR (?) by taking each fuse out and measure current "across" the fuse. Once you have found the leak, then that "group" needs to be checked for the actual problem child.

By the way, I had a leaking airbag (suspension) and that did nothing to the battery.

Good luck. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Your FFRR has what is known as 'Parasitic Drain'. This clip explains how to check it out Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Without starting the parasitic drain investigation I have noted that the rear HEVAC fan doesn't work and regardless of setting it just trickles warm air - is this a clue? is there a separate FSR for the rear if so can it simply be disconnected. Obviously interested to hear if anyone else's behaves similarly or differently. Geoff

Hi Geoff

Bit of a long shot (and possibly patronising), but you have activated the rear HVAC controls with the button on the bottom right on the front panel? Looks like wind blowing into the back of the car - my rear fans only work (independently of the main controls) when this switch has been pressed, otherwise you just get air pushed by the main fan.
