Handbrake adjustment wheel seized

Just having MOT done and they can't rotate the rear left wheel to check the bearings as it appears the handbrake shoes have stuck/too tight. Wheel is off but the adjustment cog is not moving! Any hints? Could the shoes have seized ? They were only replaced last year with new discs and pads as well!

No brakes Are fine. It is also only registering 13% on the handbrake test. Can the cold weather have had an effect? It has been sitting unused for the last 4 days

They want to take the hub off and look at the shoes! They think that the adjuster may have seized hence the poor jandbrake perfromance

Censored , it had passed everything else in the mot!

When I fitted my new brake shoes I split the adjuster and lubed it, worth doing if they eventually get hub off.

If you had the pads replaced a year ago I would have thought everything should still be free.
They are turning the wheels the correct way? Smile

They have the car in neutral? It's not the gearbox holding it? [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

No all the other wheels turned fine - just the rear left was stiff. THink the new Shoes put on for the last MOT have seized somehow, probably due to it not being used very much (have been away for a while).

Gonna get it up on the lift a guy has got just down the road, get the wheel and hub off and have a good look. I was surprised because it hasn't affected the fuel consumption at all. Still in the mid 20's MPg. Maybe it is just the recent cold weather has made it stick.

BTw, anyone think the MOT guy was a bit harsh? After all he's done the car the last 3 times, its always passed first time and this is the only thing they could come up with as he said he couldn't check the bearing on that one wheel.

Should I have been given a pass? Yea or nay?

I'd say yea, seems a bit draconian to fail the car on something so trivial Evil or Very Mad , especially as he's the guy that normally MOT's the car & obviously knows that its well looked after. The reason women's minds are cleaner than a mans mind is that women change their minds more often!
When women say fine a mans in deep doodoo as fine has so many meanings.

Possible the cog on the adjuster is catching on the spring. A bit of poor design in the drum I feel.... .
