Which LPG System for a Supercharged?

Ok, I took the plunge and the TD6 is on ebay. I picked up a really tidy 05 Supercharged this morning and I fell in love with it already on the way back....what a difference...completely different driving experience.

So, now I want to get an LPG system on it. Last weekend I sold my P38 with the LPG on it which ran faultlessly for the last 4yrs, so I am an LPG convert already. I'm aware of the experiences of some with the Jag engines etc, but I want to hear from those of you who have a system fitted to a S/C and are getting good service with it.

My main questions are as follows:

1) What LPG systems are you guys running on the Supercharged cars?

2) What advice or experiences have you had?

3) What should I expect to pay (I know it's dearer than the standard V8 kit)

I believe some kits are not rated for the higher horsepower cars.

I'd say BRC with twin Genius max reducers and electronic valve lubrication system, expect to pay around £2,500. Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

The system doesn't matter as much as the company installing it does.

Find somewhere that has done a few and think about travelling to get it done.

It is possible to fit some underslung tanks on the L322 but they need a good bit of ally to guard them against normal road damage being placed lower down.

Most go for the spare wheel well and relocation of the air compressor though.

Thinking about it you could get 3-4 cylinder containers in the spare wheel well as its quite square to be honest Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

I'd say system matters massively on the s/c though you're right KP that installer is even more important

The system must be able to cope with the 400 bhp, which most systems can't. But choose the right installers and they'll know all this of course.

To me the key things are being able to supply enough fuel under full throttle, which requires premium high capacity injectors, pipes, and reducers (x2!). Then you need a large tank, 92/95 will be the largest you can fit.

Finally, to safeguard the engine you need electronic valve lubrication. I like the BRC system because the components are all designed to work together, and warranted. If you go with say an abc system and xyz flashlube, you may encounter problems if one component fails, and each company blames the other.

I'd say travel as far as it takes to get an installer who can prove they e done a few L322 S/Cs. Also talk to the owners, if they're happy they'll be only too glad to speak to you, and any sensible LPG installer will have a file of customers to talk go. Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

To be honest I'd want a system that could cope with at least 450bhp.

I had injectors on my 5cylinder coop that were rated to 70bhp each and that struggled at 300-330bhp to flow enough.

Better to be on the safe side I say but go for a recommended place and you should be good Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

The BRC system will cope with 300bhp x2 KP so you can run it on a V8 upto 600hp...

If you plum for a BRC system then please check the installer knows the valve lube system has recently been changed by BRC as the outgoing system was s Censored t!!! (keeps filling with air) mine has been recently changed for the new system and works much better now, which given the bad press the AJV8 engine gets for valve issues then it's important to make sure of what they are fitting... Other things you want to think about are where the filler cap is going, under the rear bumper.

Also what to do with the compressor for the suspension, some installers relocate it to the side of the car, this is a bad idea, it can be located in the spare wheel well with a little 'modification' to the casing.

Location of the gauge for the LPG level, looks best above the DSC button.

The there's the whole debate about removing cat's! I'll let somebody more knowledgeable fill you in, suffice to say, more power, better economy.

IIRC the new regs say the cat must still be on the car.

BUT AFAIK they can't test that its got internals or their function as an LPG converted car just gets smog tested.

When I had my coop done moons ago i got a 3" turbo back exhaust with just a nice back box and no cat. the engine didn't half spool up nice and smoothly afterwards Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Found a Company in Glasgow that have successfully done 5 S/Cs so far. He is recommending BRC. Quoting about £2300 + vat.......

Sounds about right. Ask him for the detailed specs of what he'll fit. Also ask him for previous happy customers you can talk to! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!
