Key programming - key lost program

All, Key 1 worked when I received the car. Key 2 didn't. The dealer programmed Key2. All worked fine but Key 1 now doesn't work. We have tried everything and no luck. Key functions in all other ways (starts car, opens door with lock etc)

Therefore my question is do I need to replace whole key or can I change the insides from another key and re-programme to my car recognising that must be the microswitches in one of the buttons

The dealer probably hasn't sync'd the keys properly, I think you will find both keys work fine when sync'd to the car individually. Best test is to get him to sync the duff key for you.

You could try doing it yourself.

Reset Procedure for your key fobs
Every signal from the remote handset contains the transmitter identification code and a rolling code. The BCU checks
the codes and only responds if the signal is from a valid transmitter. During vehicle production, the remote handsets
supplied with the vehicle are initialised to set their individual transmitter identification codes and synchronise their
respective rolling codes with the BCU. If a transmitter loses synchronisation with the BCU, or if a replacement or
additional remote handset is to be used with the vehicle, the initialisation procedure must be repeated. During the
procedure, all remote handsets for use with the vehicle must be initialised.
Initialisation Procedure
1 Ensure the vehicle is unlocked and the driver and front passenger doors are closed.
2 Install a key/remote handset in the ignition switch, then turn the ignition switch to position I and back to position
0 in less than 5 seconds to put the BCU into the initialisation mode. Continue the procedure within 30 seconds
of turning the ignition switch to position 0.
3 Remove the key/remote handset from the ignition switch.
4 Press and hold the unlock button for a maximum of 15 seconds. During this time, momentarily press the lock
button three times within 10 seconds.
5 Release both buttons.
6 Successful initialisation is indicated by the BCU locking then unlocking the vehicle. If this does not occur, repeat
step 4.
7 Repeat steps 4 and 5 with all other remote handsets belonging to the vehicle (4 maximum). Begin the
initialisation of each remote handset within 30 seconds of completing the previous initialisation, or the BCU will
drop out of the initialisation mode and the complete procedure will have to be started again. 03 4.4 V8 petrol / lpg. 1st of many hopefully. I love my Rangie

Don't know about 07 but 03 you can buy a complete cheap key of Ebay and swap the gubbins over. I have done this recently. Comes with better buttons.

Thanks guys. Had tried the key re-programming approach and had realised that I need to do both. Problem is even following the correct approach I still cannot get Key 1 to register again. Therefore assumed this must have developed a fault. Hence the change the internals approach / enquiry.

Sorry to be a pain, but doing mine i had to hold it in lock position (if you hold the unlock button all you are doing is activating global locking and your windows will all open along with your sun roof.)

I synched both of mine seperately. Thumbs Up

Cheers Piers

I have been trying to sync my new flip key! to my MY2005 Td6 (dec 2004)
Followed the others posts on this with interest, bought two flip keys from one of the oriental suppliers Wink
Had blade cut, swopped transponder over and bingo the key starts ignition Smile

But I cannot program to open doors Big Cry must have tried the program procedure a couple of dozen times now, my original keys still work ok and will program fine but the flip one just don't wonna know
I have tried programming them in a different order also Crying or Very sad

Do the flip keys get sych'd differrently or will I need to go to my Indie dealer and have them try to do it?
I dont think the unit is at fault as I have switched the inner gubbings from the second key over and can't make it work that way either.
Any help most appreciated Thumbs Up
