Battery Charger Decisions.........

My nearly 10 year old Halfords battery charger went pop this morning, so I've been looking about for a replacement.

I only use it to top the battery up every 4 weeks or do, as the Td6 doesn't get much of a run and I know how sensitive the old girls are with low voltage.

I have found the more modern equivalent of what I had, which appears to be this ;

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...55205#tab1

.........but, I looked for something a bit more robust, and found this ;

http://www.tantronics.co.uk/acatalog/Ring_...arter.html

which seems a bit better made, and has the added bonus that it'll jump start the Td6 if required.

The rub is - it doesn't look like it'll maintain the battery once charged, so I'll have to make sure I don't leave it on over the weekend etc, which I could do with the Halfords one.

Ignoring the price difference for the moment, I'm unsure what to buy.

I did have one of those cheap jump start power pack things a few years ago, but that was never any use and quickly ended up scrap.

Thought the Ring unit would also replace that..........

I would recommend looking at CTEK Chargers.

They are very well made and reasonably priced.

CTEK MXS 7.0 Thumbs Up

Fully controlled, you can leave it connected for weeks if you like.

Many thanks.

Have seen the 5.0 on Amazon at a good price ;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-CTE-MXS5-0-12...amp;sr=8-1

but its on the edge with a Td6 battery and as you point out, it looks like the MXS 7.0 is the way to go.

Just need to find best price now.......... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I got a MXS10 charger from these guys.

Very pleased with it, especially how quickly it charges the battery.

Works extremely well on an FFRR. Thumbs Up
Even if you don't have towbar and electrics it would be worth installing a stand-alone tow socket wired directly to a battery circuit and earth so that you always have a means of charging the battery even if locked out and your key doesn't open the drivers door.

I bought one of Martin's adapters for the Ctek and it just takes all the fuss out of charging the car

I reverse into the garage once a month and it's on charge in seconds. I can also charge on the drive with the lead passing under my garage door.

So much more convenient than popping the bonnet and fiddling around

I wish I hadn't seen this thread.

It has just cost me the price of the Ctek 10MXS and one of Martin's adapters Big Cry Laughing
