this shows a coolant sensor on a 4.4 petrol, not what you have but could it be the same? [half way down the page ]

You probably already know this but the level sensor also checks the SG of the coolant - I assume your mix is correct? |

There was a little cap on the tip of the sensor. When the sensor blew out !!!! of the tank when the transmission oil cooler went, I looked it and pulled a tiny rubber cap off. Since then the sensor is working (with clean proper coolant that is of course). MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
